Happy Black History Month!

We are excited to kick off our first annual month-long Black History Month celebration at NursesMC beginning February!

This year’s theme is:

🎓 Homecoming Fridays: “Honoring Our Roots, Celebrating Our Future.”

Each Friday during lunch, we will welcome members from Divine Nine (D9) historically Black fraternities and sororities, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and Black professionals in healthcare to our campus.

Our guests will:

  • Mingle and fellowship with students during lunch

  • Share insights about college pathways, leadership, service, and healthcare careers

  • During the last 10 minutes of lunch, present a brief overview of their organization’s history and perform their signature stroll

What is a “stroll”?
A stroll is a coordinated, rhythmic group movement traditionally performed by members of Black Greek-letter organizations. Often done to music, strolling reflects an organization’s history, pride, unity, and culture. It is a respected tradition within Black Greek life and serves as a powerful expression of legacy, excellence, and community.

Throughout the month, students will also have opportunities to engage with Black healthcare professionals who will share their journeys, experiences, and encouragement as future nurses and healthcare leaders.

We will conclude Black History Month on the final Friday with:

  • Parent Teacher Conferences (PTC)

  • A Black History Month Program featuring dance and spoken word performances

  • Community vendors representing Black organizations across Davidson County

  • A special Healthcare Heroes Panel, spotlighting Black professionals making an impact in healthcare

Reminder:

Every Thursday, students should wear their blue Nurses MC scrubs. This helps promote professionalism and school spirit among our future healthcare leaders. Thank you for your continued support in helping students represent Nurses MC with excellence each week!

Staff Spotlight: Ms. Alliyah Kinnard

This month we want to give a special shoutout to Ms. Kinnard, our incredible Dean of Students! Ms. Kinnard works tirelessly every day to support our students — from managing behavior and reinforcing expectations to making sure each student feels seen, heard, and respected. She brings a calm, consistent, and caring presence to our school community and builds strong relationships that help students grow both academically and personally. She not only holds students accountable, but also advocates for their voices and helps ensure their needs and goals are honored. Whether she’s stepping in to support a tough moment, celebrating student progress, or helping restore and strengthen relationships, Ms. Kinnard leads with fairness, compassion, and heart. We are so grateful to have her as such a steady and positive force for our students and families.
