Welcome Back!

Dear Delaney Families,

I hope that you have had a wonderful summer and have been able to enjoy time with family and friends! On behalf of the Delaney School Community, I am thrilled to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year.

This has been a busy and productive summer for us at the Wrentham Public Schools. The custodians have been working to have the buildings and playgrounds ready, the office staff has been enrolling new students throughout the summer, and the teachers have spent time creating classrooms that are welcoming and centered around student learning.

I am eager and excited for the students to walk through the doors and for the school year to get underway. The Delaney School is a wonderful place for students to learn, explore, and grow. The fantastic staff and supportive parents work together to make this school a special place for our students, and I am excited for the start of another great year!

Thank you for taking the time to read through the Delaney School September Newsletter. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Miss Kathleen Maloney

Meet and Greet

Our annual “Meet and Greet” will be held on Thursday, August 29th. Please adhere to the designated times, as the teachers will be involved in meetings before and after their meet and greet sessions. In order to avoid confusion and overcrowding of classrooms, please be sure to visit current teachers only during the Meet and Greet.

Delaney School students (Grades K-3) and their families are welcome to visit their new classroom between 9:15 and 10:00. Students can say hello to their teachers and classmates and drop off school supplies. Preschool students and families will follow the orientation schedule that was provided in your summer placement letter.

Our Wrentham Elementary PTO will be hosting a Welcome Back Picnic on the grassy area behind the Delaney School (off the bus circle) during the Meet and Greet. The Big Freezy Shaved Ice truck will be on site from 10:00-12:00.

For the safety of all students, families, and staff members, please adhere to parking in the bulleted areas listed below that have been designated for this event:

  • Delaney School Parking Lot

  • Taunton Street (parking only on the school side of the street)

  • St. Mary’s church parking lot

  • Parking lots behind and adjacent to Sweatt Field

  • While the bus circle will be blocked off, there will be some parking available on the road that leads to the Roderick School.

  • Please consider carpooling to reduce the number of cars.

Thank you for your support and cooperation to help make this a successful day.

NEW! Raptor School Security System

We are excited to introduce a new school security initiative in the Wrentham Public Schools. The Raptor Visitor Management System will scan the license (or other ID) of every adult who visits the school during school hours to screen and document every visitor to the Delaney School. A visitor badge will be issued through this new system. Please remember to bring your driver's license when you visit the school to attend a meeting, to volunteer, or to attend a classroom event.

Parent and Student Handbook

The Wrentham Public Schools Parent and Student Handbook was developed by a committee of administrators, teachers, and parents to provide you with the information you need for the 2019- 2020 school year. All of our students are expected to observe the procedures set forth in this handbook.

We ask parents to review the handbook, particularly the information about student expectations, with your children and then sign and return the Verification Sheet to school as soon as possible.

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders

Arrival

Parents dropping off students at the Delaney School must use the drop-off lane between 8:10 and 8:20. Staff members will assist children as they exit the car, and parents are to remain inside their vehicles. Roderick students may be dropped off at the Delaney School and can walk through the building to get to the Roderick School.

Any student who arrives after 8:20 must be walked into the building and signed in by a parent. Please remember: parking is not permitted in the fire lane at any time.

Dismissal

Please send in a note to your child's teacher with any changes to his/her daily dismissal routine. Dismissal information must be provided at the start of each year, so please inform your child's teacher as soon as possible. The classroom teacher will then alert the office, and changes can be made/updated in your child's records.

If you are dismissing your child during the school day, please remember:

  • Students in PreK-Grade 1 should be dismissed from the Delaney Office.
  • Students in Grades 2&3 should be dismissed from the Annex Office.
  • Please consider avoiding dismissal during the lunch/recess block.

Afternoon Dismissal & Pick-up

All students being picked up from school at the end of the day will be dismissed and signed out in the Delaney Cafeteria. Please have your license with you when you pick up your child at the end of the day.

Aspen Parent Portal

The Aspen Family Portal is the easiest way to keep student and emergency contact information up-to-date. The Family Portal will be opening for the 2019-2020 school year on Tuesday, September 17th. An email will be sent to each student's primary contact with information about activating your account. This information will also be available from your oldest student's homeroom teacher during the Open House~Curriculum Night (or sent home in their backpack the next day if you cannot attend). If you have already activated your account and your password has not expired, you can log-in with the same information you always have. This is a very important resource because it allows you to update your contact information throughout the year. This allows us to be sure you receive important communication sent from school. Through the Family Portal, you can also complete the student handbook verification, technology policy verification, and notice of student data privacy verification.
