Library Updates from Ms. Pokorny Library Updates from Ms. Pokorny

  • Library Checkout: This year our checkout times look a little bit different due to the ABCDE schedule, and a new library/counselor rotation schedule. We realize this may be confusing. However, students are welcome to check out every single day in the library during open checkout times (2 hours each day). Please just encourage your child to bring their books in their backpack each day so they can return their books whenever they’re ready! If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Pokorny – Emily.pokorny@nkcschools.org

  • Reading incentive reminders from the library: We are working to encourage reading this year via community collaboration. Here are some reminders about incentives that have come home or that will be coming home soon that you can use to encourage your child to read each evening at home. You can count your reading minutes toward all of these incentives!

  • Read for 15 from the Mahomes Foundation: complete your log of reading for 15 mins each day from September 16-December 15. Return the log to your child’s teacher with your signature on Monday, December 16th for a prize! (note: if you have lost the log sheet, feel free to send a note on your own paper or screenshot the note you use to track the reading times and email it to your child’s teacher. However you track the time you’ve read is fine with us!)

  • Books for Yo from Yogurtini: your child should have brought home a bookmark from Yogurtini. Mark off the 30 minute time icons as you complete your reading. Once you’ve completed all the icons you can redeem the bookmark for free yogurt!

  • I Read so I can Roll from River Roll – your student will be bringing home bookmarks in November from River Roll Skate Center in Riverside, MO. Students just need to read 5 books, and have a teacher or librarian sign the bookmark, then return the bookmark to River Roll to redeem a prize. There is also an option to sign up with a QR code on the bookmark to join the Kids Skate Free program (only requires the cost to rent skates if needed). The school with the most sign ups will earn a free end of year skate night!

Fall Parties Fall Parties

Fall Party and Costume Parade

Our Fall Parties and Costume parade will be on Thursday, October 31st at 2:40. Our whole school will start with a costume parade through the school that parents are welcome to attend. Immediately following the parade, classes will transition to their rooms for their fall party. Parents are welcome to attend that as well.

Fall Parties for Parents

New changes to parties this year:

  • All parents must be in our Visitor Aware (security) system prior to the party. In previous years, we used the Raptor System, but this year all schools transitioned over to Visitor Aware. Unfortunately, all parents will have to get checked into this new system, even if you were in the old system. See below for more information. If you are not in our NEW system, we recommend coming in prior to the party day to get your ID scanned.
  • Please RSVP HERE so we can have your visitor sticker printed off ahead of time for a faster check-in process.
  • If you'd like to take your child home with you after the party, you will be able to sign-out your child in the classroom and take them home from there. There will be no need to check-out in the office once you've signed them out in the classroom.

Parents will have the opportunity to sign-up to help with the Fall Parties on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Parties will be held in the afternoon from 2:40 - 3:40PM. If you plan to help please remember the following:

  • All parents must be scanned into our Visitor Aware Security System to be in the building. We are asking for you to do this process in advance of attending the party if you haven't already completed this process this school year at Fox Hill or another school in our district. Jenna or Leann, in our front office, can help you scan your ID into the system anytime. Without this process occurring, you won't be able to attend the party. Please call Jenna or Leann at (816) 321-5090 if you aren't sure of your Visitor Aware status.
  • If you have to bring children from home, you must supervise them i.e. no running around the room, etc.
  • There will not be extra snacks or activities for younger children to do during the party.
  • Parents volunteering to assist with the party must help/supervise the students in the class.
