CAVALIER Chronicle
WELCOME TO THE 22-23 SCHOOL YEAR

It's a Great Week to be a Cavalier!
Happy Sunday Cavalier Families!
We had a great start to the year with our first week on campus and I am hopeful that you also had a great start at home! Our staff will continue to work on building positive relationships with students and families this week. We will have Cavalier Culture assemblies for each grade level this week. This is a time where we share the history of our school and our vision for the future with our students. It is important to us that our students know they are part of a school with a great history and we want them to be proud to be a Charles Patterson Cavalier!
On Wednesday, we shared our campus norms and expectations in relation to basic procedures. We believe that learning is our students' profession and so we want them to know how to be successful when they are with us. We also know that everyone (adults included) enjoys their work more when they get along with the people they work with and have a little fun. 😊 I've included the slides that were shared with your students below so that you also know what the expectations are.
We are looking forward to an amazing week! If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out! We are here to help!
Have a Cav-tastic week!

Important Info
Cavalier families should be able to access your student's schedule in Home Access Center (HAC) this week. HAC is a valuable resource and is one way that teachers communicate your student's progress throughout the year (see attachment below for information about HAC). If you need assistance with it, please reach out to our parent liaison, Twila Hill (twila.hill@killeenisd.org).
I have attached a copy of our Parent/Student Handbook below as well. Please take some time to read through it and talk with your student about it as well.

Transportation
Bus Route information was made available to parents/guardians via Home Access Center last week for those who are eligible and requested transportation.
Expect transportation delays the first few days of the school year. However, Killeen ISD provides the Edulog Parent Portal Lite smartphone app to help you receive information about your student's bus ride. The app allows you to see real-time information about the location of your student's bus and will alert you when the bus is getting close to the bus stop.
Arrival and Dismissal
Drop-Off & Pick-Up Map for Cars and Buses
Please notice the drop off and pick up areas for cars at CPMS. For the safety of our students, please do not drop off in the bus loop.
Parents/Guardians should only be driving in the yellow area indicated on the map.
The red area is for buses only. Parents who enter the red area are putting students and staff at risk as there is limited visibility when buses are present.
Lockers
Students will not be assigned a locker. Students may bring a backpack.
ID Cards
Students will receive their ID cards during the second week of school. If your student did not take their photo during Readiness or CAV Camp, they will have their photo taken on the first day.
We appreciate your support in enforcing the KISD Student Code of Conduct!
We will talk with students about the Student Code of Conduct during CAV Connection on Monday, August 19th. They will watch the video linked below in order to ensure they know what the expectations are. We will be asking them to talk with you about the video as well. We believe that knowledge is power--knowing and understanding the rules helps them to be more successful.
Student Code of Conduct Updates
Electronic Devices and Pouches – Secondary students will maintain their phone, and all communication devices, in a locked pouch during the school day.
E-cigarettes/Cigarettes
1st Offense Violation:
Students will be assigned one day of ISS and one day of Saturday School. Secondary Students will attend at their home campuses (the curriculum will be provided for all students who attend for cigarette/e-cigarette violations).
If the student fails to attend ISS, Saturday Detention and/or complete the lessons, a due process hearing will be held with a recommendation for DAEP placement for 10 days. Students will be allowed one make up opportunity to complete Saturday Detention.
2nd Offense Violation:
A due process hearing will be held with a recommendation for DAEP placement for 20 days.
Consequences for School Bus Violations:
For school bus safety violations, and for serious violations, as defined in this document, that happen on the bus, the 3rd bus offense shall invoke at least a temporary removal (possibly a permanent removal), and the 4th offense will invoke a bus suspension for the rest of the school year. For students attending a DAEP, the 2nd bus offense will result in permanent bus suspension for the time the student is placed in DAEP; any flagrant bus offense prior to the 2nd violation may result in immediate bus suspension. Students who fight on the bus will be suspended for three days. If after a thorough investigation, fighting is confirmed, then the students involved will be removed from the bus for 30 school days. Under severe circumstances the Director for Transportation Services reserves the right to implement temporary or permanent bus suspension at a date earlier than prescribed by this regulation.
