October 1, 2026
Dear Tanglewood Families,
Cooler weather seems to be moving into Southwest Florida! October is a busy month. It is important that students attend school, on time, every day. Academics suffer when students miss time away from school. Please schedule vacations during school breaks to minimize learning disruptions and help students to arrive on time each day.
Check our school calendar to see all of our October events. Here are just a few highlights:
October 2: PTA's Fall Fest, 5:30 - 7:30
October 7: Walk to School Day
October 16: End of Quarter 1
October 19: No School - Professional Duty Day
October 22: Quarter 1 Report Cards are posted in FOCUS
October 30: Character Parade
Watch for more information about these events. If you are not receiving messages from our automated School Messenger system, please check to make sure you have "Opted In" to receive messages, including by phone, email and text.
Just a reminder: Interims and report cards are only available online through the FOCUS Parent Portal. First Quarter Report Cards will be published on Thursday, October 22nd at 4:00 PM. This important tool also gives you access to:
Report cards and progress monitoring
Attendance records
Discipline referrals

COUNSELING CORNER
Tanglewood has now been a Leader in Me Lighthouse School for 6 years! This means we believe all students have the potential to be leaders, and we are working to develop leadership skills at school every day.
Our students will be adding to their leadership binders as the year progresses and tracking their own learning and data. As in the past, we will also focus on one of the 8 Habits each month. If our students learn and follow these 8 Habits of Happy Kids, they will help make Tanglewood the very best place to be each day!
September’s habit is Habit 1: BE PROACTIVE! You can help your student practice this habit at home by talking about and reinforcing the following concepts.
Being Proactive Means:
● I follow rules every day at school AND home.
● I am in charge of myself and my choices.
● I choose my actions and attitudes.
● I do not blame others for my wrong actions.
● I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking.
● I know I need to tell an adult when someone is hurt or something makes me uncomfortable.
● I do not tattle just to get others in trouble.
● I am responsible about my behavior, my schoolwork, and my chores at home.
● I act like a water bottle instead of a soda bottle.

OUT OF FIELD TEACHERS
Florida State Statute 1012.42 recognizes that teachers at times must be assigned duties in a class outside the field in which the teacher is certified. The following teachers at Tanglewood Elementary School are engaged in training to add the required endorsements and certifications to their teaching certificate.
TWES Student Lunch Protocol
We invite parents to enjoy lunch with their child only during their child's scheduled lunch time.
Parents check in at the front office.
Front office personnel will radio cafeteria personnel to make them aware that the parent is at school to have lunch with their child and will then direct parents to the cafeteria.
Parent and child will have the choice to eat on the stage or outside on our picnic tables by the black gate.
This is a special lunch for you and your child. It is not a time to bring a sibling or friend to eat with you.
Students are to stay with their parent(s) throughout their entire lunch time.
Please make sure you are aware of your child's beginning and ending time for their lunch.
Students should rejoin their class as soon as their lunch time is over.
Wandering in the hallways or playing on the playgrounds is not permitted regardless of whether the student is with their parent or not.
We hope you enjoy this special lunch with your child.
Thank you for your cooperation.
With appreciation,
The TWES Administration
TWES Student Birthday Celebrations
Student Birthdays are a special celebration.
If you choose to bring in a birthday treat it must be store bought.
Preferably cupcakes, no cakes at all as this is a challenge to cut up and hand out.
Please reach out to your child's classroom teacher to confirm the day you will be bringing the birthday treat in for the class.
- These will be brought into your teacher's classroom.
- Teachers will celebrate in their classrooms, not the cafeteria.
- This can take place any time during their day at their choosing.
Thank you for your cooperation.
With appreciation,
The TWES Administration
