Commendations and Thank Yous
Marblehead High School AP Honor Roll: MHS has earned Platinum recognition, the highest level awarded by the College Board, reflecting strong student achievement, rigorous coursework, and meaningful access to college-level learning opportunities.
Brown School STEAM Fair: A huge thank you to the students and staff at Brown School for an incredible STEAM Fair on January 29th, featuring everything from volcanoes to bath bombs!
Brown School Kindness Initiative: Superintendent Robidoux recently shared updates on the Brown School Kindness Initiative. We’re grateful to see intentional efforts underway to foster empathy, connection, and a positive school culture at the elementary level.
Remembering Robert Sanford: We pause to honor the life of Robert Sanford, a Holocaust survivor who generously donated his time and perspective to our schools for many years. His voice enriched students’ understanding of history and humanity, and his contributions will be remembered.
Marblehead Racial Justice Team: MVMS recently hosted a presentation from the Marblehead Racial Justice Team, continuing important conversations about equity and community partnership.
Facilities: The Superintendent and SC extend their sincere thanks to our maintenance and custodial staff for their extraordinary efforts clearing more than 20 inches of snow. Working 14-hour shifts with limited equipment, they ensured parking lots and walkways were cleared quickly and continue to manage ongoing snow and ice removal. We are deeply grateful for their dedication and hard work.
2026–27 School Calendar Approved
At our January 29th meeting, the School Committee approved the 2026–27 district calendar.
Start Date: Students will head back to school on Monday, August 31, 2026 (the Monday before Labor Day).
- Last Day: The school year is scheduled to end with a half-day on June 16, 2027, provided there are no additional snow days.
Budget & Finance Update
The District Budget Proposal for FY27 has been released. Please take some time to review the proposed budget here, including an introductory letter from Superintendent Robidoux, and a presentation on the challenges and decisions that built the budget.
The FY27 budget is the most significant challenge facing our schools today. The town directed the district to prepare a "level-funded" budget, which means we are asked to operate next year with the exact same $49.1M appropriation we received this year.
The Reality: Rising Costs vs. Flat Funding
To simply maintain our current staff, programs, and services, our budget naturally needs to grow by $2.6M. This is driven by standard contractual obligations and the rising cost of utilities and supplies. The administration worked to protect taxpayers by covering $1M of that increase using outside government grants and state aid. However, even with that support, we still face a $1.6M gap to meet the town’s requirement for a level-funded budget. This shortfall is what necessitates the difficult reductions currently being proposed by the Superintendent.
The Proposed Cuts
In the Superintendent's budget proposal, cuts were kept as far away from the students as possible— but at this funding level, classroom impacts are unavoidable.
Exhausting Efficiencies: Before looking at classrooms, the administration team cut over $769,000 by freezing supply budgets, renegotiating leases, and shifting administrative costs to outside grants.
Reducing Teaching Staff: The administration team identified a total reduction of 6.95 full-time teaching positions. While the district is working to achieve this through attrition—meaning roles will not be filled after retirements or resignations—it ultimately results in fewer teachers in the buildings next year.
Impact on Student Support: Proposed reductions include a General Education Elementary Instructional Assistant and a 40% reduction in hours for a Speech-Language Pathologist. The plan also calls for cutting a vacant ABA Coordinator position and a Math Interventionist role.
Infrastructure & Operations: To close the gap, the administration is cutting a Maintenance Worker position and reducing the facilities budget. While a request has been made for critical needs like Wireless Access Points through the town’s capital planning process, these items remain at risk if not funded outside the operating budget.
Why This Matters for the Future
Every possible efficiency has been found. There are no "painless" cuts left for future years. Continued level-funding into FY28 and beyond would require reductions that would fundamentally change the educational experience in Marblehead.
Stay Informed & Share Your Thoughts
Your voice and perspective are vital as we navigate these difficult choices.

Strategic Plan
District administrators are working with stakeholder groups to build and refine a strategic roadmap - the District Improvement Plan - that will guide Marblehead Public Schools from 2026 through 2029. This is not just a document; it is a commitment to elevating the educational experience for every student in our district. It delivers:
A Unified Vision: Academic goals, student well-being initiatives, and financial planning will be synthesized into one clear framework for progress.
Data-Driven Accountability: Measurable benchmarks, ensuring the community can see exactly how the district is meeting targets in literacy, math, and college readiness.
Long-Term Stability: By looking three years ahead, we move beyond year-to-year planning toward a sustainable model that protects our core educational values.
The plan was built with deep input from Principals and was recently shared with staff for feedback. In mid-February, it will come to the community to ensure it reflects Marblehead’s unique priorities.
Implementation is targeted for Fall 2026, providing the clear framework needed to ensure our district remains a leader in innovation and student achievement for years to come.
Fun Fact
During public comment on January 15, it was brought to our attention that a time capsule was buried at Coffin School in 1976. It is scheduled to be opened this year, 2026, as part of Marblehead’s 250th anniversary celebration.
We look forward to celebrating this piece of Town history!
