Grade 3 Moving On Ceremony Grade 3 Moving On Ceremony

Our traditional Grade 3 Moving On Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, at 9:00 AM. We will be celebrating their time at Green Meadow and wishing them well at Fowler. Families are invited to attend. Students will be performing some of the musical pieces they have been working on this Spring. Grade 3 teachers will share more information as the date gets closer.

Grade 3 Clap Out Grade 3 Clap Out

We will be recognizing our third grades on the last day with the traditional Grade 3 Clap Out. Third Graders will take a last lap around the building while students and staff clap and wish them well as they transition to Fowler. Families are invited to continue to Clap Out by lining up near the Library dismissal doors. If your child will be riding the bus that day we will still have them exit from this door before joining their bus line.

Home/School Math Connection Home/School Math Connection

Learning math facts, doing math, happens best with repeated practice and is enhanced by play and collaboration.

We are sharing a fabulous resource for families that supports learning through play and practice. It comes from Lord Math, a local math learning company. Lord Math- Mathemagical Card Games “Playing Cards are the ultimate tool for developing number sense while playing games! Use a regular deck of cards and play games like Go Fish, Go Make 10, Number War, Addition War, Integers War, and more!”

  • Making 10 is a strategy many students and adults use. It is a strategy that teachers support and encourage, because 10 is a very useful number in math:-) When students are fluent with 10 facts they can apply that to all addition and subtraction problems. They can also extend what they know about basic facts to help them solve problems with 2-digit and 3-digit numbers.

  • Go Make Ten is a great example of a math game that supports students'

number sense across grades…. “In this game based on the classic game of “Go Fish” , players make pairs to 10 until someone is out.”

It is amazing to see how much children enjoy this game! They LOVE it and it supports their learning through practice and play. We hope you enjoy doing math with your children!

Playground Reminders Playground Reminders

The weather is getting nicer and it is wonderful to see so many families using our playground to gather and get to know each other. A few quick reminders as you supervise your children:

* Please remind children to respect the playground space and the people who are using it. Students take the Green Meadow pledge everyday to be Kind, Safe, Learners. We remind students that this is important even when teachers are not watching.

* The children are well-versed in our playground rules during the school day. If your child is using equipment in an unsafe way they can always be reminded to follow "school playground rules."

* During the school day, students do not play in the woods. This rule is in place for supervision purposes and because we are back in tick season. If your child plays in the woods after school we recommend you check them for ticks before leaving.

* Please ask children to return any big sticks or rocks to the woods before leaving the playground so it is ready to go the next day.

* Students may not climb the trees on school property. Thank you for enforcing this expectation.

Thank you for your help! Please keep the outdoor play going during the last few weeks of school.

Conflict is uncomfortable, yet inevitable. Learning how to resolve conflict is a skill, and one that can be taught. You can help your child gain tools to resolve conflicts peacefully and more importantly, internalize these conflict resolution strategies so they can solve their own conflicts when you are not there. As always, how you manage yourself, even when in conflict, may be the best teacher of all! Additional SEL resources can be found on the Green Meadow Social Emotional Learning Resources website.

Green Meadow Building Update Green Meadow Building Update

Over the April vacation we had radon mitigation systems installed in the four classrooms that had been consistently reading above 4 pCi/L.

We are working with an HVAC company, to complete the repairs of the univents that became inoperable a couple of years back during a cold spell. Given the age of the univents, there were some additional parts discovered and still need to be repaired. This is happening as soon as possible.

We also had a different air balancing company come and perform air balancing in Kindergarten and Pre-k classrooms . However, we are waiting to complete balancing in rooms that still need to have the univents repaired.

It is believed that by repairing the univents, balancing the air flow in areas affected by radon, and installing radon mitigation systems for rooms above 4 pCi/L, that should reduce the level of detectable radon in the air.

We are completing a 48-hour radon test this weekend, and should have results by early next week, which will be shared.

Maynard Library Improv Event Maynard Library Improv Event

Come and experience the magic of watching a new musical come to life before your very eyes! The music director for this show Devereux Geiger was a music director for Improv Boston’s The Family Show (Winner of the Nickelodeon Award for Best Children’s Theater) a show widely considered the “Pixar” of Live Comedy. Solo improviser Ella McGaunn Geiger got her start in improv more than two decades ago when her public library offered a free improv class. She can’t wait to bring this show to the Maynard Public Library. Although content is aimed to be appropriate enough for older kids (7-12) the show is fun for teens and adults too! The event is happening at the Maynard Public Library, Saturday, May 10, from 2:30 - 3:30 PM.
