Fourth Grade Weekly Update
December 5, 2025
News You Can Use:
Monday, December 8 - Marking Period 2 Interim Period ends
Reading with Mrs. Griffie
We are continuing on in Blood on the River! As usual, the gentlemen are up to no good. Have they tried to sail back to England with the colony's food supply? Next week we will learn how to use context clues to determine the meanings of unknown words. Before Christmas break, we will take a graded assignment in the form of multiple choice questions, similar to what the students see on the MCAP assessment. We will also review the requirements of Super Sentences and evaluate our own work.
Spelling
Over the next two weeks, we will focus on sentence structure and vocabulary, rather than spelling. The next spelling list will be sent home after Christmas break!
Math with Mrs. Wescoat
Last week, the students subtracted fractions and whole numbers that have the same denominator using a number line. Also, they added and subtracted fractions and analyzed their strategies.
Next week, the students will add and subtract mixed numbers. They will complete the graded assignment for this Unit on Tuesday, December 9th. Later in the week, the students will create line plots and analize the data.
Science and ELA with Mrs. Boye
ELA-Fourth graders continue their reading of the book, My Life In Dog Years by Gary Paulsen.
Next Writing Assignment: Fourth graders will compare and contrast the dogs the author had as pets, decide which dog is their favorite, and give reasons why the dog is their favorite.
Social Studies: Fourth graders are learning about map elements. They are also learning about the geographic features and human characteristics of the state of Maryland and the USA.
