Mid-Summer Updates
July 3, 2026
Dear UAHS students and families,
It is hard to believe that the Fourth of July is already upon us! Like many of you, my family is looking forward to the parade, the block parties, and ending the night at Northam Park with a fantastic fireworks show. I wanted to take a moment to formally introduce myself as the new Principal of Upper Arlington High School, as well as provide a few reminders as we head into the second half of summer.
I am beyond thrilled to begin my first year leading UAHS. As both an alumnus and a fellow community member, I am incredibly honored and excited by the opportunity to guide the next chapter of our exceptional school. If we haven't met yet, I look forward to partnering with you soon. If we already know one another, I can't wait to continue the work we've started.
Summer Reading
All UAHS students are assigned summer reading. The summer reading assignments vary according to course and can be found here. At the beginning of the school year, the students should bring their summer reading text(s) to class and be prepared to discuss them in their ELA classes.
Service Hours
At Upper Arlington High School, summer service is one way we realize our vision of uniquely accomplished students prepared to serve, lead and succeed. All UAHS students are required to complete 6 hours of community service for an organization of their choice in exchange for designated days off during the school year (such as the Freshmen-Only or PSAT Day). This summer service provides valuable real-world experience, personal growth, and college and career readiness.
In order to have these hours count, please make sure they meet the following criteria:
Completed during the summer - June 1 through September 30, 2026.
Entered into the Maia Learning platform and verified by your community service contact by September 30, 2026.
Students must have summer service submitted and verified online by September 30, 2026. Failure to do so will result in the retroactive marking of an unexcused absence for August 12, 2026, and ineligibility for Early Release, Late Arrival and parking privileges.
Important Dates
August 03: 9th Grade Parent Orientation
August 10: Fall Sports Meet the Team
August 12: First Day for 9th Graders
August 13: First Day for Grades 10-12 (all students attend)

Have a safe and fun July 4th weekend!
Best,
Tom Lombardi
