Creating Optimal Music through Positivity, Expectations, and Growth Mindset
What have your students been creating and doing?
Happy October!
Thank you all for being so supportive throughout the year, thus far. We have been busy growing our musicianship, while I have been able to challenge student's musicality and expression.
6th Grade: We are finishing up our song composition project (which with be reflected under Q1 Report Card Grade "Create"). We have also been preparing for Westside Choral Festival and Veteran's Day.
4th + 5th Grade: First, thank you for your flexibility with the program date! I had students set individual goals to hold themselves accountable during rehearsals and to practice determination and perseverance. I believe you will all be amazed by what these students have prepared for you.
3rd Grade: We learned a new note (low sol) and practiced singing it using a song called "Wind Up the Apple Tree." We are now identifying the musical alphabet and using the musical alphabet to write our own songs.
2nd Grade: We are currently learning about improvisation and making music on the spot using what we have learned through meter and rhythm.
1st Grade: We have identified new rhythms, and have been practicing these new rhythms by playing drums, rhythms sticks, and eventually, xylophones!
Kindergarten: We are experiencing how melodies move up and down in songs. We have used our bodies to show how melodies move (Up, down, stay the same) as well as sing new songs.

This program is no longer on October 15th.
We are instead performing on November 10th, 2026.
