January Newsletter
Message From the Principal
Happy New Year, Silver Firs Families!
Welcome to 2026! I hope your winter break was filled with rest, joy, and quality time with loved ones. It has been wonderful seeing our halls filled with students again; staff is feeling rejuvenated and ready to make the second half of this school year our best one yet!
As we dive into a busy January, here are a few important updates to keep us moving forward together:
- Dressed for Success (and the Weather!): With the winter chill in full swing, please ensure your students come to school prepared for outdoor recess. Coats, hats, and gloves are essential for staying warm.
- Celebrating Growth with iReady: Throughout the month of January, students will be engaging in the winter iReady diagnostic. This is a fantastic opportunity for students to show off how much they’ve learned since the fall and helps us tailor our instruction to their unique needs.
- Looking Ahead to WIDA: Starting in February, our Multilingual Learners will begin the WIDA assessment. This annual window allows our students to demonstrate their growing English language proficiency across listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
We are so grateful for your continued partnership and the energy you bring to our school community. Let’s make this a month of great growth and learning!
Warmly,
Aleta Smoot, SFE Principal

State-Mandated Attendance Letters
With the transition to Synergy, the process for generating state-mandated attendance letters is changing. Beginning this month, if your student has accrued multiple excused and/or unexcused absences during the 2025–2026 school year, attendance letters will be generated on a bi-weekly basis. Because of this schedule, you may receive more than one attendance letter within the same time period.
At Silver Firs, we care deeply about student attendance and are committed to prevention, early intervention, and strong family engagement to address attendance concerns. Our goal is to create a positive environment where every student feels supported and wants to attend school each day.
If you have any questions about attendance processes, please contact
