Happy Friday!
Dear HMS Families,
Oh my goodness, what a week it has been! We have had the best time hanging out with the most fun kids in the world! We hope they have come home with the same smiles we see them with in the hallways.
Thank you for sharing your kids with us once again as we kick off this school year. We have a lot of fun things planned this year and we are looking forward to sharing it with our HMS community. It's going to be a great year!
With Kindness,
Bess & Sid
Reminder: Chromebook Assurance
We strongly encourage you to opt-in for our assurance program.
For the 2025-26 school year we are offering the Hockinson Assurance Program (HAP) as a way for families to greatly reduce the financial risk if a Chromebook is accidentally damaged or lost. This program is completely voluntary, but students who opt-out should still complete and submit the enrollment form online, choosing the "Decline" option.
HAP is an insurance program that covers student's Chromebooks in case of accidental damage or loss. The program costs $20 to enroll and covers any repairs to Chromebooks due to accidental damage. If the Chromebook is stolen or lost, the student will only be liable for $150 of the replacement cost with HAP, unless a police report is submitted, then the cost is fully covered.
For detailed information on HAP, please see the Hockinson Assurance Program from on the Technology Forms page.

Athletic Directors Corner
We are excited for our fall sports seasons to officially be underway! All of our athletes have been working extremely hard through the first week. There will be a short fall sports parent night on Tuesday 9/2 in the commons prior to our school Open House which begins at 5:30 in the gym.
Schedules will not be finalized until the middle of next week however, Cross country begins their season next Friday 9/5 at the Steve Maas Run-a-Ree, Football will play at Monticello on Wednesday 9/10 and Girls Volleyball will play their first games on Monday 9/15. We look forward to a successful fall season. Finally, I really want to celebrate all of our athletes who tried out for volleyball this week, it takes a lot of courage and regardless of the outcome we are so proud of them and hope they continue to participate in school activities.
Upcoming Sports -
Winter I sports registration will open October 1st and the season will begin Oct. 20th. Please make sure that your athlete has a current physical on file, and all forms are signed through FinalForms.
Girls Basketball is open to 7th and 8th graders. We will have 3 teams and not all athletes who try out will make a team.
Boys and Girls Wrestling is open to 6th - 8th grade boys and girls.CHEER CLUB
HMS is excited to introduce Hornets Cheerleading Club. Hornets Cheerleading Club (HCC) is a great introduction to cheerleading for beginners. HCC will meet every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 7:30-8:30AM from 9/4 - 10/9. HCC is open to students in the 6th-8th grade. Cheerleaders will learn entry level cheers and dances with the help of HHS cheerleading coaches and HHS cheerleaders. Cheerleaders will cheer alongside the new HMS football team at home games on 10/1 and 10/8. This is a great opportunity to explore cheerleading and get a head start learning HHS Cheer material.
All participants will be required to pay an ASB fee ($25). Competition participants will pay an additional $30 for a cheer t-shirt and poms. Non-competition participants will not be issued a tshirt and poms and will only be required to pay the ASB fee. Please grab a club permission slip from the ASB office and return it prior to beginning practice.
Safety Drills
I posted about this on our social media this week, but I wanted to share this here as well. We are required to have a safety drill within the first ten days of school and then at least one safety drill per month. We take safety drills extremely seriously here and talk extensively about them with students and staff. We debrief after every drill as a team and talk about what went well and what changes we need to make. We send out survey forms to every adult after each drill and then we meet as a safety team once a month. Below you will find our Emergency Protocols that we use. We use these with each drill we practice. We did a fire evacuation drill on Thursday during 6th period for our first drill. We will continue to practice these throughout the year.
