Statue of Liberty

Our 5th grade ELL students spent the week learning all about the Statue of Liberty. They made props, researched information and completed related assignments. The classes rehearsed their parts and ended the week by performing a readers' theater script about the Statue of Liberty to each other.

Adventure Aquarium

The A.S.P.I.R.E. program at Dr. Joy D. Miller School had the opportunity to visit the Adventure Aquarium on Saturday, May 6. The students and staff has a blast exploring the one-of-a-kind exhibits with 15,000 aquatic animals, including the largest collection of sharks in the Northeast. Some of our favorite activities were walking the shark bridge, watching the penguins and hippos be feed.

Improvisation and Theater

This week all music classes had their last session with guest presenter Mr. Jim McCabe. Students had 3 classes with Mr. McCabe learning improvisation and theater. They participated in lots of fun improv exercise and games. By the end of their sessions, students were acting out scenes in different ways while reading scripts!

Mother's Day

In honor of Mother's Day, students in Ms. Riggs's Class have been working on their poetry skills. They were able to write a 10 lined poem about a special woman in their life, and draw personalized flowers to show how much they love and appreciate that person. The kids had a lot of fun being able to share things about their loved ones with the class!
