RE: MCAS Competency Determination
Class of 2022

Dear Students in the Class of 2022 and their Parents/Guardians:

On April 20, 2021, the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education approved modified competency determination (CD) requirements in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics for the students in the class of 2022. What this means for students in the class of 2022 is that they can demonstrate their competency in ELA and mathematics by earning full credit in an approved course in lieu of earning a qualifying MCAS score. More simply, these students are not required to sit for the spring 2021 MCAS exams in ELA and mathematics.

Juniors who are college-bound may want to take the MCAS tests as their scores could qualify them for the John and Abigail Adams scholarship program and we strongly encourage students to consider this option. Following is a link to more detailed information about this scholarship. John and Abigail Adams Scholarship
Students opting to sit for the spring 2021 MCAS exams will test during the second week of May. A testing schedule will be available once we have determined the number of Cape Tech students opting to test. If you wish to sit for the MCAS in May 2021, please complete the following Google Form. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.
