"Encourage one another and build each other up ..."
1 Thessalonians 5:11
What an awesome field trip we had this week to Arroyo Burro! Thank you to all our parent volunteers who were able to make this happen!
This week, we officially finished and turned in our State Reports; yay! This was our largest research and writing project of the year, and I am proud of this class in keeping to deadlines and managing time with such a long term project. Well done!
At this time of year (the haul before Easter Vacation), it's typical for the students to get a bit more restless. I've noticed more rushing through work, not checking over work, and general overeagerness to be finished. We've stressed the importance of slowing down, and taking our time, as we don't want the restlessness to begin to affect all our hard work put in so far. Keep going, 5th grade! You've got this!
In Reading this week, we finished up our unit on What Makes a Planet a Planet? We took our reading assessment on this as well. For Writing in March, we are focusing on a "How To", so students are writing a recipe on how to create a successful leprechaun trap. In Math, we finished our unit on dividing unit fractions, and tested today! Next up, we will start a very short topic on representing data. In Science, we created mini oceans, and waited to evaporate the water, so we could see the salt, even if it's not visible in the water. In Social Studies, we tied up our unit on the Revolutionary War, and will start looking at how our country was built. In Religion, we prayed the Stations of the Cross with our 6th grade class (using posters created by 5th grade!) and started a new unit looking at parables. The 5th grade posters are hanging up on the fence around the field. Feel free to stop by and check out their amazing artwork.
