On March 1st, we will be celebrating the love of reading and highlight 'Read Across America' in honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday. Our day will begin with a School Meeting in the cafeteria where the Reading Specialists (Ms. Maurizi & Miss d'Entremont) will kick off our events for the day. The entire week leading up to our School Meeting will be dedicated 'fun days' where students will be asked to wear something specific to highlight Dr. Seuss and his love for reading and writing.

February 25-Hats Off to Dr. Seuss (Wear a Cat in the Hat, crazy, or favorite hat)

February 26-Oh, the Places You'll Go! (Wear Clothing that presents a place)

February 27-The Lorax (Wear a mustache provided by the PTO)

February 28-Fox in Socks (Wear your favorite socks)

Teachers were also asked to decorate their doors to illustrate a favorite Dr. Seuss book or saying. The 2 winning classes will get announced at our School Meeting and get to duct tape Dr. Orlando and Mrs. Moyer to the wall and listen to a read aloud!

Book Fair & Artmobile Book Fair & Artmobile

Thank you to parents and families for purchasing books and items from our Albert Schweitzer Book Fair. Mrs. Adamson and Mrs. Freed did an amazing job transforming the library into a space where students could enjoy their love of books. We also appreciate all families that purchased items at the Sweetheart dance. Portions of the proceeds do go back to our school. Thank you, thank you!

Mrs. Todd, our art teacher, helped coordinate a 4-day visit from the Artmobile. The featured exhibit was 'Planting Seeds,' and students learned about the art & science of pollination. The presentation provided a unique opportunity for meaningful and innovative arts-infused programming that supports STEAM teaching and learning.

Title I Parent Workshop-You're Invited!

On Thursday, April 11th, the annual Title I Parent Workshop will be held at the Bucks County IU Office Building in Doylestown. The topic is 'Tackling Technology' and will have two presenters: Ronald Rolon and Cindy Kruse.

It is being held from 9:30 am-2:00 pm. Please review the attached registration form to the Smore email if you're interested in attending. Forms must be returned to your child's teacher by Thursday, March 7th.

Service Learning Club Gives to the Community

The Service Learning Club at Schweitzer is designed to enable students to use academic knowledge and skills to address genuine community needs of our school and the surrounding community. Mrs. Exner is leading the Club with fourth grade students and other staff volunteers. The Club just had its introductory meeting to brainstorm new ideas to help our school and the community. Additionally they completed their first project of providing Valentine wreaths and placements for the Senior Center. The wreaths turned out so well, that the Service Learning Club created wreaths to hang up around the building.

Family Paint Night

On January 24th, Schweitzer hosted a Family Paint Night to benefit the art department and the 4th grade class. They had 50/50s and raffle baskets for families to win along with pizza and snacks. Each student painted a featured penguin Beanie Boo with the art teacher, Mrs. Todd that students replicated and made their own. It was a successful fundraiser and a great way to be together and raise money for our school community!

Visit from Mr. Jones, Superintendent

Mr. Jones, district Superintendent, visited our building for the entire day on February 7, 2019. He spent time attending staff PLC (Professional Learning Community) meetings, visited classrooms, was present for arrival and dismissal, and met with professional staff at all levels throughout the day in small groups to listen to successes and challenges at the building and district level. It was a pleasure to have him here with us as a Schweitzer Lion for the day!

Staff Development-Instructional Rounds Comes to Schweitzer

Staff at Schweitzer will be participating in Instructional Rounds on March 21, 2019. A district-level team comprised of district administrators, teachers, and staff are coming to our school to observe classrooms. The Instructional Rounds model practice follows the medical rounds model where the building is focused on a targeted area of instruction. The process is being led by Mrs. Rachel Holler from the Bucks County IU. Small teams will be visiting classrooms that day to collect observational data and bring it back to the larger group and building principal for suggestions for next steps in professional growth in that area. Albert Schweitzer's area of focus, or 'Problem of Practice' will be on levels of questioning in the classroom and student engagement. We look forward to our continued growth as professionals!

Pets on School Property

Board Policy allows for service animals to be on school property during the school day. If you bring your pet to our school during morning drop-off or afternoon pick-up, the animal should remain in your car. Please do not allow your dog, cat, or other pets to exit your vehicle during our arrival or dismissal unless the animal is a service animal. We have some students that are allergic to dogs and cats. We have some students that are afraid of animals. This is why we generally only allow service animals on school property during the school day. We appreciate your help and support in this area.

Dressed for the Weather

Please be sure students are sent to school with warm coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. We do take students out for recess each day unless the temperature is below 20 degrees. We appreciate you being diligent so that your children are warmly dressed. If you need assistance with coats or gloves, please contact our school counselor, Mrs. Moyer.
