Canvas End of Year Info
Hey there!
Wondering what to expect as the end of the school year approaches? Have no fear! We have you covered! Students will have access to this year's courses until June 18. After that, their courses will be removed from their dashboards and they will have read only access. Teachers will have access to make edits, score assignments, and make changes to grades in courses until June 23. After that, you will have read only access. (Don't worry though, you will still have access to import that content into next year's courses so you won't need to start from scratch!)
Where will my course go after June 23?
Your archived course will appear under “Past Enrollments.” Once the course has gone past it’s end date, it will show up here and no longer appear in your dashboard. You will still have access to all of it’s content, and can copy content to new/future courses
Is there anything I should do to my course before the end of year?
We recommend that you save your course in one of two ways:
- Copy Course Content into a New Sandbox: This will keep your course content handy in your dashboard. Make a Sandbox and give it an appropriate title. Example: “2020-21 5th Grade Archived.” Then Import Your Content to the new sandbox course. OR
- Share to Commons: If you'd like to share your course content to Commons privately, with others in the district, or with the public, you will need to do so before your course is concluded June 23.
What if I want to prep for next year? What can I do?
Here are some suggestions:
Prepping for the New Year-Create a Sandbox CourseSince you won't have your course shells for next year's classes until closer to the fall, you can create a new course to begin preparing. Teach multiple preps/courses? You can create as many Sandbox Courses as your heart desires (just make sure to name appropriately to avoid confusion).
Copy Course Content From Past Course You can import all of your course content from the previous year or select specific content from past courses. Here (in your Sandbox), you can make any additions or edits to prepare for next year. Make sure to select the box to include completed courses to get a full list.
Import From Commons Import content from courses you have shared to Commons or resources shared by other educators into your new Sandbox Courses.

Transition from Google Cloud Assignments to Google Assignments 1.3 in Canvas
Currently, VUSD users have access to both the Google Cloud Assignments LTI and the Google Assignments 1.3 LTI. They both serve similar purposes, which allow the teacher to share google docs and slides using the “make a copy” feature for each student. Please note the following:
The Google Cloud Assignments LTI is being officially retired on Sept. 1, 2021. (This integration was developed by Canvas)
Users should shift to using the Google Assignments 1.3 LTI (This integration was developed by Google)
