Details About the Graduation Ceremony
Base graduating seniors will receive 8 graduation tickets this year. Seating is on the bleachers in the Sunset Main Gym. Tickets are provided to students on the last day at BASE, when they complete their senior check-out form. Seniors will be given their senior check-out forms on Monday, June 1 in Crew.
Graduates should wear clothing and footwear that honors the importance of this ceremony to your family and yourself. Flip flops, for example, would be inappropriate footwear for this occasion, including safety walking on the varied surfaces of the ceremony. There are stage stairs students will navigate to receive their diploma and footwear should be secure enough to navigate those stairs safely.
Graduates can decorate their graduation cap, if they purchased one, with school appropriate decorations that are 1 inch high or less. No decorations on the cap should hang over the student's face or block the face. If your student is borrowing a cap and gown, they may not add decorations to the cap.
Graduates should arrive at Sunset High School by 12:15 pm. Doors open for graduates at 12:00 pm.
Guest with tickets will be able to enter Sunset High School beginning at 12:30 pm.
Graduates are expected to adhere to the student behavior expectations listed later in this Newsletter.
Students or guests attending graduation should not bring balloons (no latex in BSD schools) or noise makers into the school.

Senior Expectations
We want all BASE seniors to finish strong. Coming to school every day and attending every class is an expectation. There is no approved "senior skip day" in the State of Oregon. All seniors are held accountable for learning and teacher assessments. Parents, please help us by encouraging and expecting your student to attend class every day.
Parents, it is also a good reminder to talk with your student about expectations regarding behavior and senior pranks. Any damage or costs associated with activities is at the cost of the school and in some cases, the cost of the students and their families. We want to use our budget to provide a wonderful senior breakfast and a special graduation ceremony; not cleaning up after a few individuals. The Class of 2025 had a senior prank of placing pink flamingos and pink flamingo accessories everywhere. While clean-up was required, their prank did not cause any damage and the clean-up costs were minimal (in fact, many seniors helped in the clean-up after the fun was had). Please be respectful of BASE staff in anything the Class of 2026 might have in mind.
You've got this, seniors. Finish Strong! I have every confidence the behaviors listed below are not behaviors of member of our senior class. Please see the Senior Expectations below:
Engaging in any of these activities may result in not being able to attend Prom and/or the graduation ceremony. We rise by lifting others. I believe in you and can't wait to celebrate with you.
- Any senior prank that results in vandalism, disruption of the school day, or has harmful impacts.
- The assassin game being played on school property, any time of the day, including parking lots.
- Hate speech of any kind.
- Fighting.
- Drugs and/or alcohol.
- Vandalism of bathrooms.
Please - No Latex Balloons
Balloons, gloves and other latex products are not allowed in our buildings or on district property.
