Sunset Ridge PK-8
Family Newsletter

Dear Sunset Ridge Wolves,
Welcome to the start of a fantastic new school year! I hope your summer was filled with rest, fun, and memorable moments. The staff and I are thrilled to welcome our students back to the building, and we are ready to make this year our best one yet.
At Sunset Ridge PK-8, our foundation is built on PAWS—Positivity, Accountability, Wise choices, and Safety. These core values guide everything we do, from our daily classroom routines to our interactions as a school community. By focusing on PAWS, we create a supportive, encouraging, and focused learning environment where every child can thrive.
This year, we are excited to expand our leadership and support team with two wonderful additions:
- Kelly Altizer, Assistant Principal: Ms. Altizer joins us with a strong passion for student growth and academic success. She is eager to work alongside our teachers and families to help our students achieve their highest potential and grow smarter every day.
- Mr. Luna, Campus Monitor: Mr. Luna is dedicated to ensuring our campus remains a safe, welcoming, and orderly environment so that teachers can focus on teaching and students can focus on learning.
We deeply value our partnership with you, as family involvement is essential to our students' success. There are several great ways to get involved early this year:
- Join the PTA: Share your voice, connect with other parents, and support our school community.
- Volunteer as a Chaperone: We are hosting a schoolwide field trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science on Friday, September 11th, and we would love to have parent chaperones join us for a fun day of learning.
- Attend the Parent Academy for Student Success (PASS): Held on Tuesday evenings, this program offers valuable resources and strategies to help you support your child's academic journey.
Thank you for trusting us with your children and for your continued dedication to Sunset Ridge. If you have any questions about the upcoming field trip, PASS, or getting involved, please call our main office.
Let’s have a wonderful year growing together!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Arce
Principal
Sunset Ridge PK-8
• Kelly Altizer, subdirectora: La Sra.
Sinceramente,
Sra. Arce

📣Updates and Reminders📣
📘 Important Student & Family Handbook Updates
Families, we are uploading our 2026–2027 Student & Family Handbook for you to review! The handbook includes important school expectations, procedures, safety information, and policies that help us create a safe and successful learning environment for all Huskies. We encourage families to review it together with their students.
Here are a few important updates and reminders we want to highlight:
📵 New WPS “Bell-to-Bell” Phone Policy – Cell phones must be powered off for the entire school day. PK–5 students will keep phones in their backpacks, while 6–8 students will keep them in their lockers. Phones that are visible or being used will be confiscated and require parent/guardian pick-up.
🥤 “Save a Stop!” – Skip the morning Starbucks, Dutch Bros, or McDonald’s drink stop! Please do not send students to school with caffeinated or sugary drinks. Students already receive FREE breakfast and lunch each day, so save yourself some time and money in the morning! 😊
👕 Dress for Success – Please review our updated dress code expectations with your student. Clothing should provide appropriate coverage and may not display inappropriate language or images, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or weapons. Pajamas and slippers are not permitted unless it is an approved school event.
💙🧡 Thank you for taking the time to review the handbook and helping us keep expectations consistent between home and school. When families and schools work together, our Wolves succeed! 🐺
⏰ Every Minute Matters!
Regular attendance is one of the biggest keys to your child’s success! Tardies and absences add up, and even missing a few minutes each day can mean missing important instruction, routines, and learning opportunities.
We ask families to work together to build strong morning routines, arrive on time every day, and make attendance a priority. When school and families work as a team, we give every student the best opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed! 🐺💙🧡

🛡️ Safety Drills Keep Us Prepared!
Throughout the school year, our students and staff will participate in several practice safety drills. These drills are an important part of keeping our Sunset Ridge community safe! 🐺💙
Practicing drills gives students and staff the opportunity to learn what to do, where to go, and how to respond calmly during an emergency. Our goal is never to scare students, but to help everyone feel prepared, confident, and ready if a real emergency were ever to occur.
Below you will find the safety drills that we are required to practice throughout the school year. Thank you for partnering with us as we work together to keep our Wolves safe! 🧡
Please read the flyer attached. Remind students they should not be bringing toys of any kind or valuables to school. They will be taken away and will need to be picked up after school. Thank you for helping us avoid unnecessary distractions and issues.
💙💵 A Friendly Reminder About School Fees 💵💙
We truly appreciate our families’ continued support of our school community. School fees play an important role in helping us provide quality instruction, classroom materials, student activities, technology, and a safe, welcoming learning environment for all students.
When fees are paid on time, it allows our school to plan effectively and ensure that every student has access to the resources they need to succeed. If you have already taken care of your fees—thank you! If not, we kindly ask that you do so as soon as possible.
If you have questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are always happy to help. Thank you for partnering with us in supporting our students’ success!
Share a Shoutout for Our Amazing Staff! 🌟
We know how much our staff members and teachers mean to you and your children. To celebrate them, we’d love to include your kind words in our next school newsletter!
