A Note from the Principal
Day 175/180
It's hard to believe this is our second to last Journal entry of the year! With just five more school days, this year has flown by!
This week, our sixth graders created core memories during their three day, two night Nature’s Classroom trip. From outdoor adventures to team building activities, and everything in between, it was an experience they will not soon forget. A huge thank you goes to our incredibly dedicated sixth grade staff for making this trip a reality, and for giving up time with their own families to provide such a meaningful opportunity for our students.
Today, our JMS students competed in their final House Cup Challenge during Field Day, and will learn tomorrow which House has earned the JMS House Cup Championship. Throughout the year, students have worked hard to accumulate Pirate Gold Points through academics, behavior, attendance, House challenges, and school involvement. Tomorrow, one House will officially be crowned champion, thereby earning both the coveted House Cup Trophy and a special trip to their Boston Harbor Island.
While our oldest students are wrapping up another successful year, some of our youngest students will be celebrating an important milestone tomorrow as they participate in their PreK Graduation. It is always exciting to watch our newest Pirates begin their academic journey, and we cannot wait to welcome them back as kindergarteners next fall.
Next week is packed with celebrations, field trips, and end of year traditions. We will wrap up the year on Thursday with our JES Wrap Up Assembly, Step Up Day for students in grades K through 4, and our annual Sorting Parrot Ceremony, where our fifth graders will officially be welcomed into the middle school and assigned to their JMS House.
As we head into the final days of the school year, I continue to be grateful for the students, staff, and families that make the Jacobs School such a special place. There is still plenty of fun ahead, and we look forward to making the most of every day.

End-of-Year Reading Update for Families
An Additional Note from the Principal
Dear Families,
As we come to the close of the school year, we would like to share an update on our K–3 reading assessments. Over the past several weeks, students have participated in end-of-year reading assessments that help teachers understand each child’s progress as a reader and support thoughtful planning for the year ahead.
It is important to note that STAR Reading benchmarks increase throughout the school year as grade-level expectations become more rigorous. As students learn new skills and concepts, the score needed to meet the benchmark also increases. For this reason, maintaining benchmark status requires students to continue making growth over time. When reviewing your child's results, we encourage you to focus not only on whether they met the benchmark, but also on the growth they have made since the beginning of the year.
Grade-level teams carefully review these results to help guide instruction, intervention, and enrichment as students move into the next grade. Families will receive a caregiver report sharing their child’s results. If your child’s results suggest they may benefit from additional reading support, one of our interventionists, Jessica Buonagurio, Kerrin Silva, or Heather Swimm, will reach out to discuss the results, share ideas for the summer, and explain how we will monitor your child in the fall.
These assessments are just one of many tools we use to understand student growth and ensure instruction meets the needs of all learners. Each child’s reading journey is unique, and we remain committed to supporting continued growth and development in the coming school year.
We truly value our partnership with families and appreciate your ongoing support as we work together to help all students build strong, confident reading skills. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

JES Field Day on Wednesday!
June 17 is our Kindergarten - Grade 5 Field Day! Students will enjoy a fun-filled day, packed with a variety of games and a cookout lunch! Please send your child with a spare set of clothes, as there will be a few water games!
😎 Let's Talk About Summer Reading 😎
Our students have made great progress in reading this year, and we'd like that progress to continue right through the summer. That means summer reading! To encourage this, the Hull PTO is once again sponsoring Bingo for Books for students entering K-5th Grade. Please see the links below for an explanation of how the game works, and the all-important Bingo Card.
JMS students (entering Grades 6 & 7) will receive their Summer Reading and Math assignments from their teachers, but we do have links to the Grade 6 Summer Reading and Grade 7 Summer Math Packets below. We'll add more JMS Summer packets as they become available.
