Hawk News 4/24/2026
Hendrickson High School
Message from Principal Grebb:
We are down to one final STAAR EOC exam on Tuesday. On April 28th, we will administer the last STAAR EOC of the year: Algebra I. The same expectations apply, get a good night’s rest, bring a charged Chromebook, and come with a winning attitude, ready to ensure success on the exam.
We are also providing another opportunity for students to earn their CCMR status by taking the TSI exams. Juniors have been notified of their assigned testing day, so please be sure to report to the library on your testing day.
We are just four weeks away from wrapping up the school year. Both baseball and softball are headed to the playoffs, and UIL One-Act Play and Academics are competing at Regionals, looking to punch their ticket to state. It is an exciting time to be a Hawk!
Thank you for all that you do and for your continued support as we navigate this busy and often stressful time of year. Take a moment to breathe and recharge this weekend!

Yearbook Wins National Award
This past weekend the 2025 Talon earned a Pacemaker award from the National Scholastic Press Association. This is basically the Pulitzer Prize for yearbooks. There were 56 nominees and only 19 winners in the nation. We have been nominated twice before, but this is our first win.
Please join me in congratulating the staff of last year's yearbook. They will be the first to tell you that the book that is coming out in a few weeks is even better. Thank you all for every time you let one of my students knock on your door for an interview or stand on the sidelines of your game with a camera. We love getting to tell the story of Hendrickson HIgh School.
Below is a press release and attached is the staff from last year.
NSPA names ‘best of the best’
Pacemaker competition recognizes 19 yearbooks for journalistic excellence
April 18, 2026
MINNEAPOLIS — The nation’s top scholastic yearbooks were recognized today by the National Scholastic Press Association, which announced 19 winners in its annual Pacemaker competition.
“The Pacemaker is the association’s preeminent award,” Executive Director Laura Widmer said. “NSPA is honored to recognize the best of the best.”
The NSPA Pacemaker, one of the oldest awards for scholastic journalism, has a rich tradition. The association started presenting the prestigious award to high school newspapers soon after the organization was founded in 1921. Throughout the years, yearbooks, magazines, online sites, broadcast programs and innovation were added to the competition.
“The yearbooks selected as Pacemakers represent strong visual and verbal storytelling. The judges were highly selective, recognizing approximately 20 percent of the entries,” Associate Director Gary Lundgren said.
Two teams of three judges devoted three days to the judging and studied every entry, discussing its strengths. The status of each entry was agreed upon by at least two of the three judges. In Pacemaker competition, the yearbooks compete against each other and are not scored on a rubric.
The high school yearbooks competed in categories based on the number of pages — 340 or more pages, 337-288 pages, 286-235 pages, 232 or fewer pages. Junior high/middle school yearbooks of all page counts complete in a category.
A presentation showcasing the yearbooks will be available for download for classroom use. Selected Pacemaker-winning yearbooks will also be available for download for study and inspiration.

EF Tour
Dear families,
We’re thrilled to announce our upcoming trip to Seoul, Busan, Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo in Summer 2028, and your student is invited! This life-changing experience will help students build confidence, independence, and global perspective.
We’re holding a one-time informational meeting to share everything you need to know—and spots on this trip are limited:
Find meeting info and RSVP here: https://rsvp.eftours.com/r2ha4mm
Why attend?
- Learn how to save $200 with early enrollment.
- Get first access to limited spots.
- Learn about what we’ll see and do, academic opportunities, trip cost, and more.
We have a brand-new opportunity available exclusively for your students — a referral discount program!
Here's how it works:
- Any student who is already RSVPd for the meeting can invite other students to RSVP and attend.
- For every invited student who RSVPs and attends, the student who invited them will receive a $100 discount off their tour.
- There's no cap on the savings — for example, if a student invites 6 friends and all 6 show up, that student earns a $600 discount!
That's it! We'll take care of the rest and apply the discounts accordingly.
In the meantime, please visit EF’s website to get answers to common parent questions. EF Tours is our trusted travel partner, and they have 60 years of experience helping students explore the world safely and affordably.
