What Is PBIS?

PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. That’s a BIG name for a simple idea: We teach, practice, and celebrate positive behavior!

Just like children learn their ABCs and 123s, they also need to learn how to be good friends, make responsible choices, follow directions, and stay safe.

At our school, we keep it simple by focusing on THREE important guidelines:

💛 BE NICE!

We teach children to:

Use kind words and helping hands.

Treat others with respect.

Share, take turns, and be a good friend.

Include others and show kindness.

⭐ WORK HARD!

We encourage children to:

Always try their best.

Listen and follow directions.

Keep trying, even when something is difficult.

Take pride in their learning and accomplishments.

🛡️ STAY SAFE!

We help children learn to:

Walk safely in the hallways.

Keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves.

Follow playground and classroom safety rules.

Make choices that keep themselves and others safe.

How Does PBIS Work?

Throughout the school day, our teachers and staff teach, model, practice, and reinforce these three guidelines.

When children demonstrate positive behaviors, we recognize and celebrate their efforts!

And when mistakes happen? That’s okay! Kindergarten is all about learning. We use those moments to reteach expectations, practice better choices, and help children grow.

🏠 How Can You Help at Home?

Ask your child these three simple questions:

💛 How were you NICE today?

⭐ How did you WORK HARD today?

🛡️ What did you do to STAY SAFE today?

Celebrating these behaviors at home helps reinforce what children are learning at school!

Gym information and reminders from Ms. Brooks

This week in gym they played zombie tag and pumpkin patch!.

  • Please remember to send gym shoes with your child on their gym day. NO crocs or sandals as these are tripping hazards and we don't want anyone getting hurt during gym.

Library information and reminders from Mrs. Tinoco

This week in Library we read "Room on the Broom" and "There's a Witch in Your Book"

They really enjoyed casting spells with their wand to help the characters in the book. Hopefully they didn't use their powers to turn their teachers into a cat! 😹🪄

  • Each Monday will be library checkouts for every kindergarten class. Please remember to send your child's book back to school with them each week.
  • If you have any questions about library, please contact me at stinoco@hobart.k12.in.us

STEM information from Mrs. Tinoco

This week in STEM the kids were in charge of their very own mini volcanos! Last time they saw me they learned about observations. They were able to learn what ingredients it took to make a volcano while I did the mixing. This time around they each got their very own apple and did the mixing themselves. They were really excited to become scientists and create the reactions on their own.

Hello, my name is Ms. Brooks! This is my 3rd year here at the ELC as the gym teacher. What a blessing it has been making memories through movement, laughter and play! Building strong bodies and confident minds.

I am 35 years old. I have an almost 8-year-old son Kane, who is the light of my life. I have been teaching for over 10 years as a pre-K teacher, and a competitive gymnastics coach for 20! My life is consumed with family and friends with my son's sports sprinkled in between. Getting to do what I love every day is amazing and getting to do it as a Brickie makes it even better. 💜💛

My name is Mrs. Crouch, and I taught kindergarten for 15 years. This is my 5th year teaching kindergarten music. I love to travel with my kids and share my love of music with them too, just like my mom! My family works with Families Helping Hobart, and I started the Helping Hands Club here at the ELC. I also work at Johnson's and love the animals! I even got a kiss from a cow this weekend. Besides travel, I enjoy playing board games and video games, reading, and singing with the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra. My favorite Disney character is Figment!🐲

My name is Mrs. Tinoco. I am the librarian, STEM teacher and media specialist. This is my 10th year here at the ELC. I am currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in elementary education. I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Joah, for 21 years and we have 3 sons Skyler, Brayden and Gavin. My husband and I were born and raised Hobart Brickies just like our boys. 💜💛

I enjoy watching my boys play all the sports they love which includes football, volleyball and tennis. I enjoy sharing my love of music and concerts with my boys and traveling whenever I can with my husband. I have a love for everything Harry Potter!🪄

Hello my name is Sheila Rich. I have been working at the ELC since 2021. I work in many positions. I love working with kids and spending time with them. I retired from working as an Ophthalmology Technician for over 20 years. I missed working with the kids at school. I worked at another school when my son was young. It was the best job ever! I am a blessed Grandmother of my grandson Rohan and my granddaughter Margo. They are a blessing from Heaven. One of the best things I have is I am now a “Brickie”. I graduated High School in New Buffalo. It is hard to live here and not be a Brickie. 💜💛
