Principal's Message

Dear Alta Mesa Families,

Thank you for coming, asking questions, and helping us kick off the year as a strong Alta Mesa community at Back to School Night—it really meant a lot to see so many families in the classrooms and connecting with our teachers. No school on Monday, September 1st for Labor Day! I hope everyone enjoys a fun, relaxing long weekend. Riffle Raffle starts on Tuesday, September 2nd—flyers and ticket requests will go home for parents to sign. And here’s the exciting part: any student who sells 10 or more tickets gets to pie me in the face! Check below for all the details on how the raffle works.

Cross Country practice starts on Tuesday from 2:15–3:00—don’t forget your sports permission slip! Fall Picture Day is coming up on Friday, September 5th, and we’re looking for one more volunteer to help out—each volunteer gets a free picture package! If you can help from 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., please email Kaylene at kelliott@eesd.net. That same day, our 5th graders are off to Lassen for their annual field trip—a super fun and memorable experience! Make sure all permission slips are turned in.

If you ordered an Alta Mesa shirt or sweatshirt, stop by the office with your payment (cash or check made out to Alta Mesa School) so you don’t miss out!

This year, our staff put their brains together to make sure that our mission statement truly reflects what we are doing here at Alta Mesa, and we’ve landed on a simple but meaningful one: to inspire a lifelong love of learning and equip every student with the skills to achieve their individual goals. I’m so excited to share this with our community and start the year with such a clear and inspiring focus!

Thank You,

Kristen Crites

The Sundial Riffle Raffle is a unique event designed as a fundraising opportunity for the Rotary Clubs of Northern California Foundation Against Substance Abuse and local schools and youth groups. Originally presented as the Ducky Derby, it has returned over $5 million to local schools and youth groups.

Funds from the Sundial Riffle Raffle are to be used for Substance Abuse Prevention Programs and Youth Development. This is a unique partnership, where Redding East Rotary provides the infrastructure for students to sell tickets. If the Rotary Club is able to raise adequate funds to cover the cost of the race, 100% of ticket sales are returned to the youth groups.

The Riffle Raffle is our classroom teachers main fundraiser for the year. The ticket sales are facilitated by our Alta Mesa Booster Club. If you are interested in selling tickets, please sign the ticket request form that will go home with your student.

All proceeds go to the classroom teachers Booster Club account to be used for many things including field trips and the purchase of classroom materials.

Alta Mesa Prizes:

  • Top selling class will earn a pizza party
  • The second place class will earn a popsicle party!
  • Every student who sells at least 10 tickets will get to throw a pie in Ms. Crites face!
