Wiggin Street Parent Update
May 2, 2025
Better Together
Dear Families,
Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week and I'm so grateful for the entire Wiggin Street staff! Thank you to all that have volunteered to help with food for the week. We also have our K-2 Spring Musicals Tuesday night and Talent Show on Wednesday at 2:00 pm in the gym. All are welcome!
State testing has been completed, and we are so proud at how hard our students worked during the tests and all year. We know that they tried their best and respected themselves. Great job, kiddos!
Now, we are in our last month of school and there are so many fun things planned. Please help remind students to be respectful and on their best behavior at school, because special events are priviledges.
Have a great weekend!
Best wishes,
Christy Grandstaff

Dance Collaboration with Kenyon's Caroline Connelley
I am pursuing an intergenerational community engagement project with local elementary schools as well as at the Ohio Eastern Star Assisted Living Home. The dance department at Kenyon has opened my eyes to the many ways movement can bring communities together. In my experience, I've seen how movement creation reignites joy in senior living communities and opens new creative pathways and outlets for expression in children. With this project, I sought to foster this sense of community and creativity by teaching creative movement classes in the greater community. These fun classes applied a brain-compatible approach to creative dance instruction. Through imaginative movement themes and guided improvisation, students developed skills in coordination, spatial awareness, and confidence while finding new ways to express themselves and deepening a mind-body connection. Even with such a wide range of ages in this project, there were many commonalities. It's been so rewarding to see each dancer open up to different ways of moving and begin establishing a positive relationship with dance. I've learned so much from these creative movers and I will miss them all very much. Caroline Connelley
Art
5th graders just finished a unit focused on clay. Students learned the process of creating and glazing a pinch pot. They then added some special touches with soil, pebbles and an air plant so that these can be enjoyed and displayed at home!

2025-26 Class Lists and Teacher Requests
A lot goes into creating class lists. Teachers meet with the next grade level as well as other staff that work closely with the grade level to make sure the classes are well balanced. Students' academic levels and Social Emotional needs are just a couple of ways that teachers look at to balance the classes. This continues into the summer as we are made aware of new enrollment. For these reasons, we feel it is important to wait till August to share the final lists.
If you have an educational reason for a teacher request, please submit it in writing via email to myself at cgrandstaff@mvcsd.us by May 1st, 2024. Also, if you know your child will not be attending next year, please let us know.
