We're officially in the second marking period of the school year (hard to believe, right?)! Progress reports will be sent home next week along with VTCAP/Cognia scores for last year's 8th, 9th, and 11th graders.

Parent/Teacher Conferences are being held next week (Thursday evening and Friday afternoon). All parents should have received "Sign Up Genius" emails from your child's teachers - please use these to schedule your appointments. Also, feel free to reach out if you have any troubles scheduling times with teachers.

Lastly, here is the schedule for Friday's half-day (if you have a senior, please pay attention to the slight adjustments in class times):

Period 1 -- 8:10 to 8:54

Period 2 -- 8:57 to 9:49

Period 3 -- 9:52 to 10:44

Period 4 -- 10:47 to 11:40

Thank you!

🏧 Searching for Volunteers for our Financial Reality Fair 🏧 Searching for Volunteers for our Financial Reality Fair

We are searching for Volunteers to assist us with hosting our 1st Financial Reality Fair on Thursday, January 21, 2027 in the Fair Haven Union High School Gym.

The Financial Reality Fair is an engaging, hands-on financial literacy experience that allows students to explore the realities of adult budgeting. Through an interactive simulation, students are assigned a career, salary, and monthly income and must make real-world spending decisions while balancing a budget. This experiential learning activity helps students understand the financial implications of everyday choices and encourages critical thinking about future educational and career paths.

The Reality Fair is designed to help students:

  • Develop practical budgeting skills.
  • Understand the relationship between income, expenses, and financial goals.
  • Explore the true costs of housing, transportation, food, healthcare, and other necessities.
  • Experience how unexpected life events can impact financial stability.
  • Improve decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Recognize the value of saving and planning for emergencies.
  • Connect career choices with future earning potential and lifestyle options.

We need Volunteers to run the following booths: (All directions will be provided!)

  • Housing
  • Food
  • Transportation
  • Communications
  • Health Insurance
  • Clothing
  • Personal Care
  • Furniture
  • Education
  • Wheel of Reality
  • Financial Counselor Review

Volunteers will be needed from 8:15am to 12:00pm. The event begins at 8:45am and will host 3 sessions with 75-100 students each. All stations will be visited as students will be required to complete a budget sheet and calculate their monthly expenses and income.

Click HERE to let us know if you or your company would be interested in Volunteering from 8:15am to Noon on Thursday, January 21, 2026 at the 1st Financial Reality Fair at Fair Haven Union High School. Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Opportunity Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Opportunity

The submission portal for the 2026–27 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are open! Students and educators can now visit artandwriting.org to get started.

Last year, the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center saw the highest level of participation since BMAC began administering the program in 2010, and we would love to see FHUMHS students help make this year another incredible one!

Why encourage your child to participate? The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards give young artists and writers a chance to share their voices beyond the classroom and have their creative work taken seriously. Participation can help students build confidence, practice selecting and refining their work, and take a meaningful step toward seeing themselves as artists and writers. Students also have opportunities to earn regional and national recognition, with awarded work eligible for exhibition, publication, and scholarship opportunities.

Your encouragement can make a difference, especially for a student who has something powerful to share but isn’t yet sure their work belongs.

Key Dates for 2026–27:

  • Portal Opens: Today, October 1, 2026

  • Submission Deadline for All Entries: December 15, 2026

  • Exhibition at Brattleboro Museum & Art Center: February 19–March 6, 2027

  • Regional Ceremony at BMAC: March 6, 2027

Please share this opportunity with your child and encourage them to start exploring their submissions now. Complete program details, eligibility requirements, and submission instructions are available at artandwriting.org.
