Safety
- The Evacuation (Fire) drill happened in approximately 1:29, which is right at our goal.
- Notes: Please make sure students exit quickly but without running.
- You should display green if you have all your students. Yellow if you are missing a student that is with another teacher or otherwise unaccounted for.
- Make sure you give attendance by 9 AM daily. We must have an accurate count during any emergency.
- Teams: Please make sure substitute teachers/paraprofessionals are made aware of the emergency procedures.
Operations
- Make sure your rooms are free of clutter and trash such as crayons, pencils, and food items.
- This will help the custodians do their jobs more efficiently.
- Leave your room doors open when leaving, the custodians do not have a master key.
- Restrooms- Monitor students during restroom breaks. Students are engaging in problematic activities more often in the restrooms.

COACHES CORNER
Stormi Johnson: Instructional Coach
Everyone should have received DOK Depth of Knowledge flipcharts this week.
- Email me if you did not receive them.
Important Tips about DOK Level Questioning:
- DOK levels are not sequential. Students need not fully master content with Level 1 tasks before doing Level 2 tasks. In fact, giving students an intriguing Level 3 task can provide context and motivation for engaging in the more routine learning at Levels 1 and 2.
- DOK levels are also not developmental. All students, including the youngest preschoolers, are capable of strategic and extended thinking tasks. What they look like will differ, and what is Level 3 to a kindergarten student may be a Level 1 task for a middle schooler. All students, however, should have opportunities to do complex reasoning.
To find the right balance, ask yourself these questions:
- What kinds of thinking do I want students to do routinely?
- If my own child were participating, what would I want him or her to be doing?
- What’s the most effective way to spend the limited classroom time I have?
Decide for yourself how often you should focus on tasks at each level so that students gain the most from the learning opportunities you design.
Regardless of how you define rigor, the important thing is that students are thinking deeply on a daily basis. Webb’s Depth of Knowledge gives you a framework and common language to make that happen in your classroom.

What is academic rigor?
- “Rigor is creating an environment in which each student is expected to learn at high levels, each student is supported so he or she can learn at a high level, and each student demonstrates learning at high levels” (Barbara Blackburn). In the classroom, students are engaged in the learning process and involved in deep thinking. They achieve content and skills through engagement and high-order thinking.
- How can we add rigor to our Read Alouds? One way to add rigor is through questioning. What types of questions do you ask as you are reading with your students? Are they low level questions requiring yes or no answers or are they high level questions that ask students to justify their answers and refer to the text. When planning for your next read aloud, think about how you can weave Depth of Knowledge (DOK) Levels 2 and 3 questions. Planning a series of questions, rather than a single “high order” question, promotes student to student discourse.
Here are a few updates from OAA:
- K-3 Scope and Sequence year at a glance doc has now been updated to include 4-5’s morphology pacing
- 4th and 5th can access the doc via a new link in the Morpheme Magic folder in Schoology
- K-3 can still access year at a glance via the link at the top of your grade’s Pacing Guide
- The pacing doc reflects that Benchmark Checkpoints are no longer administered. The combination of IDI being done BOY/MOY/EOY and progress monitoring happening bi-weekly allows the opportunity to move away from those checkpoints. Those weeks are now labeled Data-based Review.
- K-5 Phonics & Morphology Pacing 23-24
Have a wonderful week!

The K-12 Mathematics Glossary can be used for your Math Word Walls or gain a deeper understanding of mathematical terms and their definitions. In most cases, you will also find visuals and/or examples that have been added for clarification. Links to related mathematical terms within this glossary may also be listed after the definition. In addition, for some terms and definitions, links to outside resources may be provided as an opportunity to explore mathematical concepts more deeply.
In addition to the GaDOE glossary you can use the linked vocabulary cards. They are from Common Core, but most of the vocabulary words are applicable to your grade level.
Please don’t hesitate to ask. I am here for you!
