Upcoming Testing @ Wicker
mClass / Dibels Middle of the Year Benchmark Assessment
The middle of the year brings in a lot of assessments to ensure that students are progressing on the right track. We will begin with our mClass / Dibels assessments on Tuesday, January 7th, upon the students' return from Winter Break. This assessment is to gauge their fluency while reading; how fast they read without mistakes, the reading of words on sight, being able to sound out words correctly, and knowing a real word from a nonsense word when reading and sounding them out. This assessments also gauges their reading comprehension level. Which informs teachers of their knowledge of understanding while reading books, passages, articles, etc. Please make sure that your child is well rested and ready to perform to the best of their ability.
ACCESS Testing
Each year, our ML students are assessed to determine their proficiency of the English language. This is a Statewide Assessment that occurs during the last week of January through the first week of March. All students who have been identified as having to participate in ACCESS Testing will be a part of the Bootcamp that will begin this week with our ML Teachers, Mrs. Baron, Mrs. Orellana, and Mrs. Martinez. This Bootcamp will help our students to prepare for the test and help them to have a better understanding of the components that they will be tested on (Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing).
Help for my Child.....
504 Plan vs. IEPs
If you are noticing some deficits in your child's academic performance, there is help available! Schedule a meeting with your child's teacher to discuss your concerns. Read over the attached document to see if your child meets any of the requirements for either a 504 plan or and IEP. Understand the difference between the two types of plans. We are here to assist you and your child! Our goal is to help them be successful in school and give them the skills they will need to be successful throughout life!
