Week 7
Dear MUMS Community,
I want to start by thanking all of you for your flexibility with respect to our evolving bus routes and times. While the adjustments may become challenging to track, we are doing our very best to accommodate as many students as we can with the drivers that we have and with that, comes change. Please continue to send feedback to us as it feels necessary.
On Wednesday we hosted our first Early Release Day of the year. Please check in with your student about the exploratory they chose in the morning. We really enjoy these days an opportunity for students to engage in choice and welcome any suggestions for possible exploratory offerings in the future.
Below you will see sign ups for parent teacher conferences which are in a few short weeks believe it or not. Given the school break on October 23rd, we will hold conferences on Wednesday, October 21st in the evening and on Thursday, October 22nd, in the morning. More details can be found below.
Thanks for the support and have a great weekend.
Best,
Michaela

Greetings MUMS Caregivers!
What’s happening in 7th grade Math?
We all know what 10 below zero feels like in the winter, but do we understand what a negative number is and how they work? In 7th grade, students are exploring just this! They are studying operations with integers and applying those to real-life scenarios like money and temperature to understand how negative numbers work. Next they will layer in “order of operations” to solve multi-step problems. Here are some photos of 7th graders in Jesslyn Mullet’s class, engaged in some thinking board tasks!
💡Talk to your student: Do they know what a negative number is? Do they know the rules of “thinking boards”? Can they explain to you the ATLs of thinking boards, including the “Log, Hog, Fog, Cog” self-assessment scale?
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday October 21st from 4:00 - 7:30pm, and Thursday October 22nd from 8:00am - 12:00pm.
Conferences hosted on Wednesday October 21st, 2026 will be IN PERSON ONLY.
Conferences hosted on Thursday October 22nd, will be VIRTUAL ONLY.
Please sign up HERE via PTCFast to indicate which teachers and times you would like to meet.
Due to limited conference slots, caregivers can meet with only two CORE Teachers. For example you could meet with your students' Lang & Lit teacher as well as the I&S teacher, or you could set up conferences with Math and Science. Please only schedule conferences with 2 out of the 4 CORE Teachers. If you sign up for more than two Megan will contact you directly to choose the two conferences you prefer.
MIXT team, Wellness, Language Acquisition, Counselors, Special Education & Interventionists will meet independently with caregivers as folks sign up. You can sign up for as many of these conferences as you would like.
Conferences will be 13 minutes long as they have been in the past.
The focus of our conferences will be on how students are navigating their school day as well as discuss strengths and an area of growth/focus.
Conference sign ups will close at the end of the day on Sunday October 18th. If you have any questions regarding this process please contact Megan Curran at mcurran@acsdvt.org.
802 Smiles Returns to Schools!
802 Smiles Dental Hygiene Program is returning this Fall in October and November to offer free dental screenings and preventative care to all ACSD students. Please complete the forms by October 22, if you would like your child to participate there will be a digital link in next week's newsletter, or there are paper copies available here at school.
Student Absences, Dismissals + Bus Notes
If your student will be absent from school, needs an early dismissal, or will take a different bus, please follow these directions:
- Absence / early dismissal: Call 802-382-1297, the MUMS attendance line, before 8:30am (helpful tip: add this number to your phone now as "MUMS attendance line")
- Early dismissal + bus notes: Students must deliver a caregiver's note to the front office when arriving at school (before TA).
- If taking a bus other than their regular bus: Students must bring a caregiver's note and have it signed by a MUMS Administrative Assistant in the front office to be valid.
