Brief Message From the Principal
Dear Jayhawk Elementary Families,
Beginning-of-Year FastBridge Assessments at JES
Our students are currently completing their Beginning-of-Year Benchmark Assessments through FastBridge. All JES students are being screened in both reading and math.
So, what is FastBridge? Simply put, it gives our teachers a quick snapshot of what each student knows right now. In reading, assessments can look at skills such as phonics, decoding, and reading ability; the specific skills assessed vary by grade level.
Teachers use this information along with classroom work and observations to answer an important question: “What does this student need next?” The results help teachers plan instruction and identify students who may benefit from additional practice, intervention, or enrichment.
Most importantly, these assessments are not about labeling students or determining who is “good” or “bad” at reading or math. They help us understand where every student is starting so we can provide the right support and challenge for each child.
