Counselor's Corner
We will continue to focus on Perseverance for the month of January for Hero of the Month. Below is a list of book recommendations.
Suggestions for reinforcing perserverance at home:
- Model Perseverance: Let children see you tackle difficult tasks, narrating your own internal thoughts and struggles to show real grit.
- Use "Yet" Language: Reframe "I can't" to "I can't yet," fostering a growth mindset where skills can be developed.
- Set Manageable Goals: Break down large tasks into small, achievable steps, using charts to track progress and celebrate milestones.
- Praise Effort, Not Just Results: Focus praise on the hard work and strategies used, not just the final outcome, to build internal motivation.
- Allow Struggle & Resist Rescuing: Give children space to problem-solve independently, only stepping in with guidance, not answers, when they're truly stuck.
- Teach Coping Skills: Introduce deep breathing, mindfulness, and reframing negative thoughts to manage frustration
Instructional Coach
Hello Families,
Students are taking the middle -of -year i-Ready assessments this week. Administrators, teachers and instructional coaches will then meet to go over this data piece . Our goal is that the students have grown in their reading skills. We will use this information to continue to help students progress in their reading skills and to set goals to meet their typical and stretch goals.
What can families do at home?
Make sure that your child gets a good night’s sleep.
