September 2026

Dear Evendale Families,

We are off to a wonderful start to the new school year! It has been exciting to welcome our students back and see their energy and smiles throughout the building. Our staff has been working hard to establish routines, build relationships, and create classrooms where every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn. We are excited about the year ahead and all that our students will accomplish as we continue to Elevate Excellence together.

September is a great time to establish strong routines and partnerships between home and school. Please continue to encourage your child to read each night, arrive at school on time, and come ready to learn each day. We also encourage families to stay connected with teachers through Class DOJO and take advantage of the many opportunities to be involved in our school community. Joining our PTA is a great way to become connected with our school. Your partnership plays an important role in helping our students grow and succeed.

As we move into the school year, I want to thank you for your continued support of Evendale Elementary. We are fortunate to have such dedicated staff, supportive families, and incredible students who make our school such a special place. I look forward to all the learning, growth, and memorable experiences this year will bring. Together, we will continue Elevating Excellence and helping every student achieve their best!

Evendale in Action

Preschool: Preschoolers are learning that we are a School Family. Everyone in the School Family makes commitments to keep our classroom safe. We are exploring attributes, sorting, letter shapes, and the difference between infomational and fictional stories.

Kindergarten: Kindergarten is working on learning school routines and making new friends. In math, students are working on number recognition and number sense. In reading, students are learning new vocabulary, letter formation, and about the five senses.

1st Grade: Firsties have started off the year with community building activities, starting leadership jobs within our classroom, and making new friends. In Math we will continue to work with Number partners to 10, Adding and Subtracting within 10 and recognizing strategies that help us do this. In Reading we will be learning new Vocabulary and understanding story elements as we dive deep into our Essential Question of how books can change lives around the world.

2nd Grade: Second grade has been earning “warm and fuzzy” Dojo points for showing kindness, respect, and helpfulness each day. They are working hard to care for one another and make positive choices in the classroom. We are so proud of the way they encourage each other! In math, students are demonstrating multiple strategies to solve addition problems, such as using number lines, drawing pictures, making ten, and counting on. Their hard work is helping them grow as problem solvers!

3rd Grade: This month, third graders are diving into the fascinating world of the sea through art, poetry, and engaging stories. As they explore ocean-themed texts, students are practicing how to make inferences by using clues from the text and their own background knowledge. They are also learning to recognize and understand figurative language as authors and poets use creative language to bring their writing to life. In math, students are learning to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100 and adding and subtracting three-digit numbrs, using strategies to solve problems accurately and explain their mathematical thinking.

4th Grade: In 4th grade math we will be focusing on rounding, adding and subtracting 4 digit numbers with the standard algorithm and begining a deeper understanding of multiplication. In 4th grade reading we will be focusing on what it means to have a great heart, both literally and figuratively. In 4th grade social studies we will learn about Ohio in regards to its locaation on a map and the early inhabitants.

5th Grade: In 5th grade Math the focus is finding the volume of a rectangular prism (LxWxH). In Science we are analyzing how organisms perform a variety of roles in an ecosystem. Social Studies has us learning some basics about geography with latitude and longitude. In Reading we are building a lot of background knowledge about the westward expansion and how it effected the Native Americans, especially the Nez Perce Indians.

Art: In art we have been reviewing past art knowledge to start the year. Grades 1-2 we read the story, Larry the Line, and created a bunch of Snakes using "lines" to decorate. Kinder is learning and reviewing the colors of the rainbow to make a "Rainbow Namebow." And lastly grades 3-5 have been reviewing the elements of art (line, shape, color, etc.) by making "Pokemon Cards!!" Gotta Catch'em All!

Music: The music classroom is full of creative music makers already! We have been reviewing lots of songs and concepts from our previous years. Students have been playing on the barred instruments, percussion instruments and recorders to create wonderful melodies. Kindergarten has loved singing and moving their bodies in our classroom. As a school we created a wonderful "song" outside the music room door using our own unique music notes so that we "Elevate our Song Together".
