Message to Parents/Guardians

Parents/ Guardians,

Remember, Face-to-Face learning begins Tuesday, September 8 for students who signed up for in-person learning. Online students will continue learning via Canvas.

All students entering the building must wear a face mask and maintain social distancing.

Students eating breakfast may arrive between 7:30 AM and 7:45 AM and will enter through the main front entrance. Students not eating breakfast are encouraged to arrive as close to 8:00 AM as possible to reduce the amount of student traffic at entrances. All kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd-grade students will enter through the main front entrance. All 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students will enter through the doors by the gym.

Students will be dismissed at 3:35 PM. Please remain in your car with your dismissal card clearly displayed, and a staff member will call for your student.

Kindergarten and 1st-grade students will exit through the main front doors located on Scruggs Park Drive. Third and 5th-grade students will exit through the doors by the gym located on Scruggs Park Drive. Second and 4th-grade students will exit from the doors at the back of the building located on Latham Drive. Older siblings will be dismissed at the pick-up location of the youngest student. Please see the map for locations.

We have been so excited to see all of our students on Zoom in the past few weeks. We have been preparing for all of the families who made the decision to come back face-to-face this first six weeks for several months now. Please rest assured that we have many procedures in place to help with safety. We have made a short video of some of the procedures that we have at school. We are going to encourage kids to use safe handwashing techniques, which are demonstrated in this children's video.

We will continue to offer help with online learning. Please rest assured that we want to meet the needs of all students. We want to encourage our online learners to continue to join their teachers during zoom times and complete assignments on the teacher's platform. We will have help times throughout the day. Also, your child may join ASPIRE for additional homework help after school, and students may attend ASPIRE either in-person or online. See more information in the ASPIRE section below.

Best regards,

Kerri Sands

We have tons of hand sanitizing stations around the building. We also have sinks with soap. Here is a video we will share with kids about handwashing.

Message from the district regarding COVID-19 Health Screening:

PARENTS/GUARDIANS: Before sending your child(ren) to school each day, YOU are responsible for screening them for COVID-19 symptoms. When each child reports to school, YOU are acknowledging that you have taken his/her temperature, and that they are not experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, meaning symptoms that are not normal for them.

If symptoms are present, the parent/guardian should contact the campus nurse for further guidance regarding if, or when, the child(ren) should report to school.

COVID-19 Symptoms include:

  • Temperature of 100 or greater
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Muscle aches
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Sore throat
  • Loss of taste or smell

While on campus, any student who experiences symptoms will immediately report to the school clinic. If the temperature is 100 degrees or greater, a second temperature will be taken to verify the first reading. If the second reading reflects a temperature of 100 degrees or greater, the student will be sent home immediately.

Here is the link to the Parent Canvas Hub, and you may click here to set up the Canvas APP on a mobile device. Canvas also has a section called the Parent Observer. Parents create their accounts, and they have a Canvas login to see their student's courses, assignments, etc. Parents can send/receive messages and announcements with the teacher from a Canvas Dashboard, just like the students. The Parent Hub also includes information for students logging in, Tech Help, and more.

Food Support

From the BISD Website:

Due to the constantly evolving situation with COVID-19, and the regularly changing guidance from state education and health officials, BISD’s Plan will be reviewed and updated as needed to reflect new requirements from the CDC; federal, state, or county orders; or the Texas Education Agency.

[Updated Aug. 14, 2020] During the school year, BISD will serve meals to school-aged students enrolled in the District. The cost of the meals for both face-to-face and online learning students will be determined by a student’s eligibility based on Free, Reduced, or Paid.

(All students may participate in curbside pickup from Aug. 24 to Sept. 4. Beginning Sept. 8, curbside pickup is only available for students enrolled in online learning.)

Online Learning Students

  • Meals will be available for curbside pickup by parents/legal guardians/students on weekdays from 9:00-10:00 AM. NEW time!
  • For families with multiple students who attend different campuses, (e.g., one student at a middle school and one student at a high school), meals for all students in the family may be picked up at a campus attended by at least one student in the family.
  • The individual picking up the meal(s) will have the option of picking up lunch, breakfast, or both. (Students will not be allowed to eat their meal(s) on campus.)

Those who qualify for reduced or paid meals can pay with cash, but we recommend putting money into your student’s meal account via www.mypaymentsplus.com.

Face-to-face Learning Students

  • Meals will be served on disposable trays along with plasticware.
  • Appropriate social distancing will be followed as much as is possible in the serving lines and while eating.

Note: Meals are only available for students enrolled in Birdville ISD and will not be served when the District is closed for holidays.
