End of Year 2025
Message from the Principal
Greetings SMS Families,
We wrapped up the school year with our Moving-Up Ceremony on Wednesday, June 25th. It was a special moment to honor our 8th graders as they prepare for the exciting journey ahead. We send them off with our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for continued success beyond Springville Middle School.
As we look back on the year, I want to extend my sincere thanks to all of our SMS families. Your ongoing support and partnership have been essential — not only during milestone events, but in the everyday moments that shape our school community. The growth and positive momentum we’ve experienced at SMS over the past few years have been truly inspiring, and it’s a direct result of the collaboration between our students, staff, and families.
This year marks the end of my second year in Springville, and I continue to feel incredibly grateful to be part of such a vibrant, caring, and committed school community. It’s been exciting to see the progress we’ve made together, and I’m eager to build on that momentum in the year ahead. Planning for the fall is already in motion, and we’re looking forward to welcoming students back in September with fresh energy and new opportunities.
Wishing you and your family a safe, relaxing, and joyful summer break!
Respectfully,
Dr. Fisher

8th Grade Moving Up
Last Day Send Off
Trip to Niagara Falls
Seventh grade had a great time exploring Niagara Falls! The group rode the Maid of the Mist, walked through the Cave of the Winds, learned about the history and wrapped up with dinner and games at an arcade!
Civil War Re-Enactment
The Reynolds Battery, a group of local Civil War re-enactors, recently returned to Springville Middle School for "Civil War Day." Students learned firsthand about life during this time in history from clothes and equipment to marching and naval movements. The students also had the chance to experience the firing of the cannon! Thanks to these incredible volunteers for bringing history to life for our students!
Trip to Reinstein Woods
Recently, Ms. Witherow’s life skills class at the Middle School invited the 5th-grade students in Mrs. Smutek’s class to join them on a trip to Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve to participate in the Animal Investigations Program. Students used their observation skills to learn about animals’ needs, their life processes and interrelationships. They enjoyed looking for clues along the trail and hands-on activities in the Visitor Center.
Fine Arts Club Visits AKG Art Museum
The members of the Middle School Fine Arts Club recently took a guided tour of the Buffalo AKG Art Museum. They viewed the current and permanent exhibits containing one of the world's most extraordinary collection of Modern and Contemporary Art. There was so much to see that they spent the entire day exploring the drawings, paintings, mixed and multimedia pieces of art, both indoors and outdoors!
Team Building
Over 50 sixth and seventh graders participated in a P.E./Athletic Team Build held on the high school turf. The event focused on strengthening bonds between classmates while building skills through football-based activities. Students also explored what it means to be a student-athlete, with an emphasis on teamwork, character development, and lifting each other up both on and off the field.
