Boone Meadow's Teacher of the Year - Melissa Tuttila
We are proud to celebrate Melissa Tuttila as Boone Meadow Elementary’s Teacher of the Year! Melissa is a trusted and dedicated colleague whose natural ability to connect with children of all ages makes a lasting impact in our school community. She thoughtfully balances care and understanding with high expectations, helping students grow not only in their academic skills, but also in respect, responsibility, and citizenship.
With a strong foundation in early childhood education through her experiences in preschool and kindergarten, Melissa brings deep insight into how children learn and thrive. Now serving on our first and second grade team, she continues to grow as a professional while inspiring those around her. A true leader and go-getter, Melissa’s strong work ethic and heart for students embody what it means to make Boone Meadow a place where everyone belongs.
Melissa, along with other ZCS Teacher of the Year representatives, will be honored and recognized at the May 11th School Board meeting.
Congratulations, Melissa. Thank you for how you serve our students, families, and Team Meadow!
We are proud to serve with you.

Dear Boone Meadow Families -
It’s been quite the week at BME! From snow flurries to sunshine, gusty winds to short-sleeved afternoons, Indiana certainly kept us on our toes. While the weather brought the excitement outdoors, the energy inside our building matched it every step of the way.
Students stayed busy with ILEARN checkpoints, enjoyed some festive St. Patrick’s Day fun, and were inspired during a fantastic author visit with Shannon Anderson. We also had the joy of celebrating our talented students during the 1st and 3rd grade music performances—what a treat!
It’s been a full, active week, and our buckets are certainly filled as we head into the weekend. We hope yours is restful and just as rewarding!
We’re looking forward to a great four-day week ahead as we head into Spring Break! On Tuesday, we’re excited to welcome our incoming Kindergarteners—the Class of 2039—for Kindergarten Round-Up. It’s always a special time as we begin building connections with our newest learners! We do still have a few spots available, so if you know any incoming Kindergarten students who haven’t registered yet, please encourage their families to do so. We can’t wait to meet them!
As we look ahead to the week, here are a few important updates and celebrations to keep in mind:
Yearbook Orders – Good news! Ordering has been extended for a few more days. If you haven’t had a chance to order yet, there’s still time—check out the link and details below.
Book Fair – Our Book Fair wrapped up today, and we are so grateful for the incredible support from our PTO in making it such a success!
Author Visit – Shannon Anderson – We had a fantastic day with Shannon Anderson! Be sure to check out the section below for highlights and photos.
World Down Syndrome Day – With World Down Syndrome Day on Saturday, many of us celebrated early by wearing bright, colorful, and mismatched socks—honoring and celebrating the beauty of our differences.
Kindergarten Round Up (March 24) – This exciting event is just around the corner! Thank you for helping spread the word about early registration. Early enrollment truly helps us plan and prepare for a strong start for next year’s incoming class. More information is included below.
We appreciate your continued support in making BME such a vibrant and connected school community!
Have a wonderful weekend, and all the best,
Team Meadow, Tom & Jarrod
Tom Hundley, Principal

Kindergarten Round Up Is TUESDAY! 3/24/26
Kindergarten Round Up will be hosted at each ZCS elementary school on Tuesday, March 24!
This is an exciting opportunity for families with incoming Kindergarteners to learn more about our schools and the year ahead.
Pre-registration is required and now open for families, so be sure to keep your eyes open for updates coming your way. Know a family with a future Kindergartener?
Tell your neighbors!
Shannon Anderson’s Author Visit Inspires Students Across All Grades
Today, BME was buzzing with excitement as we welcomed a visiting author, Shannon Anderson, who spent the day engaging with students across every grade. From sharing her personal journey as a writer to offering practical and encouraging writing tips, she captivated students and sparked creativity at every turn. The conversations, questions, and smiles made it clear - this was an experience our students will remember.
This incredible visit would not have been possible without the generous support of our PTO and the creativity and initiative behind a student‑led grant submission that helped bring this opportunity to life. (Thank you, Noelle and Zoe for the request.) It was a wonderful example of how our community comes together to enrich learning beyond the classroom.
Be sure to check out the photos below for a glimpse into a day filled with curiosity, inspiration, and storytelling in action!

March Lifeline: Perseverance
"I persist toward my goals despite obstacles, discouragements, or disappointments."
What is Perseverance?
Perseverance means not giving up. It is sticking with something even when it feels hard. It means working hard, finishing what you start, and trying again when you face challenges. When we persevere, we feel proud of ourselves for completing a goal. Perseverance helps us grow stronger and more confident each time we keep going.
Simple Way to Say It to Kids: Perseverance is when you keep trying, even when something is difficult.

Lunch Guests & Reservations
Lunch Guests
We are ready to welcome lunch guests! Students and their guests will have lunch at designated locations in the front lobby area. Please no more than 2 guests per student due to limited space. So that others may have the opportunity, we ask that you not sign up more than 1 time per month. As we implement this new system/procedure, we will limit availability the first two weeks to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday visits.
Here's how it works:
- Sign up for a reservation in advance using this link: https://outlook.office365.com/owa/calendar/BMELunchSchedule@zcsk12in.onmicrosoft.com/bookings/ When you sign up, please be certain to complete all fields requested.
- Bring a photo ID and arrive 5 minutes early (lunch times are listed on the signup form link above).
- Your child will meet you in the front office area when they are ready.
- HAVE FUN!
Visitors and Volunteers
During the school day, all volunteers are expected to check in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer's first volunteer experience, the individual must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check.. Necessary background check paperwork is available on the ZCS website at the Volunteers/BRAVO link and should be submitted at least 10 days before the intended volunteer date. Volunteers must also view the state-mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website. The volunteer will pay the fee for the full background check which will expire after 5 years.
During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government-issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times. Visitors other than parents/guardians must be prearranged and organized through the main office.
