YWA Updates- Week of September 15, 2025
COMPLETE Parent Forms to support campus funding!
PARENT FORMs Due!- Please complete the following forms in EPISD Parent Portal
Dear Parents,
EPISD recently sent you an email asking you to complete two important forms through PARENT PORTAL. These forms help us determine whether our school can receive additional funding for families who are:
IMPACT AID- for Military or Federally connected families, and
INCOME DETERMINATION- Families meeting the criteria as low socio-economic.
These areas are critical in securing funding that allows us to better support students in need. Please take a moment to review your email—you should have received a message that looks like the example shown below. We ask every family to complete the form, regardless of whether or not you meet the criteria.
We will also remind you during Parent-Teacher Conferences to ensure that we have accurate reporting. Thank you for your continued support in helping us provide the best for our students!

Student-led PARENT Teacher Conferences- will be Sept. 17th 1-6pm
YWA Follows the High School Schedule for STUDENT-LED Parent Teacher Conferences
📢 Parent-Teacher Conferences at YWA
YWA follows the high school model for parent-teacher conferences. Please bring your student and their laptop. Together, you will explore grades through the Parent Portal.
⚠️ Important Note: Parent-teacher conferences at YWA are not elementary style. Each of our teachers has 160–180 students, sometimes more, so one-on-one meetings with every parent are not possible during this time. If you feel a private conversation would better meet your needs, we can gladly schedule an individual appointment.
Here’s what to expect:
Parents and students will enter the classroom and use guided discussion questions (available at the tables) to review grades, major projects, tests, and overall progress.
Teachers may briefly chime in with additional comments.
If you’d like a longer one-on-one conversation, please set up a separate appointment.
Students will lead the discussion to help you better understand their performance and growth.
✅ Check-in Process:
Begin in the front lobby, where you will pick up progress reports from your student’s advisory teacher.
Then, walk with your student to visit as many teachers as needed.
🕐 Schedule for Wednesday:
12:00pm – Lunch for students in the cafeteria
12:30pm – Students dismissed from school
- 12:40pm – Buses depart (modified schedule, shortly after dismissal)
- 1:00pm- 6:00pm- STUDENT-Led Parent Teacher Conference

UNIFORM Reminders- Full Uniform due October 20th
Just a gentle reminder:
Families have until October 20, 2025, to purchase the full formal uniform. We understand that Lands' End does have some items on back order. We knew this before posting the uniform details, that is why we pushed our start date to October 20th! We will work with our families if there continues to be a delay at that time!
PLEASE NOTE: The only item that MUST be purchased through Land's End is the gray plaid skirt. All other items can be purchased from other vendors as long as they are comparable to the proposed uniform. Please note the Land's End gray plaid skirt is the only skirt type allowed; black skirts will not be allowed. Students do not have to wear a skirt if they prefer black dressy uniform pants. The blazer logo should be embroidered, all other items can be iron-on (PTSO offers the iron-on for $1.00 in C103).
In the meantime, students are required to wear a school-color polo with the YWA logo and black uniform bottoms (leggings are not permitted).
✨ Need Support? Please note our first order has been placed! We will notify families when the items arrive!
We are committed to supporting families in need. Please click the link below if you require assistance with uniforms: https://forms.office.com/r/p7JAH6t0Ak

-
As we launch the school year with our new uniform, dress code and uniform checks will be enforced. Please review the guidelines carefully.
-
Facial & NOSE piercings and excessive makeup are not allowed under EPISD dress code guidelines. Students should remove all facial piercings and apply only modest makeup. Parents, we appreciate your support in helping us uphold these expectations in alignment with EPISD policy.

REMINDER- Cell Phone & Electronics Policy
This year, the Texas Legislature passed House Bill 1481, which prohibits the use of cell phones and electronic devices in schools during the instructional day.
At YWA, we will continue enforcing our Cell Phone/Electronics Policy with an important update:
🔹 Students are not permitted to use electronic devices at any time—from morning arrival until afternoon dismissal.
🔹 All devices must be stored in a purse or backpack and may not be carried on the student’s person (i.e., in pockets or hands).
Thank you for your continued support in maintaining a focused learning environment.
The law defines “personal communication devices” broadly to include:
-
Cell phones
-
Smartwatches
-
Tablets
-
Laptops
-
Radios, pagers, and other digital communication-capable devices
✅ Allowed Exceptions
The law allows students to use their devices in limited cases, including when required by:
-
An Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 plan
-
A medical directive from a physician
-
Legal safety requirements or approved emergency procedures
Please review the full policy carefully to ensure understanding and compliance.
🍽️ REMINDER: Student Meals & Lunch Procedures at YWA
We offer free breakfast and lunch to all students!
-Breakfast is served daily from 7:30am to 8:20am
Students may also bring their own lunch from home.
-
A limited number of microwaves are available in the cafeteria for student use.
-
Please note: We do NOT provide refrigerator storage for student lunches.
🏫 Cafeteria Guidelines
-
Middle School students must remain in the cafeteria or directly outside the cafeteria during lunch to ensure proper supervision. They are not permitted to walk around the campus during lunch.
- High school students are permitted to eat outside of the cafeteria, but they are expected to clean up after themselves to help maintain a clean and welcoming campus environment.
🚫 Food Delivery Policy
No food deliveries are allowed for any student during instructional time. Deliveries will not be accepted.
-
Food deliveries (including Uber Eats, DoorDash, etc.) are NOT permitted for middle school students.
-
Middle School Parents are welcome to bring lunch in person or join their student for lunch.
-
🚶 High School Open Campus Privilege
YWA is an open campus for high school students during lunch.
Students are permitted to leave campus; however, they must return on time for their afternoon classes. Late returns may result in disciplinary action and revocation of open campus privileges.
Thank you for helping us maintain a safe, clean, and respectful environment for all Warriors!
