Message from Principal Brant Bemus
Dear North High Families, Students, and Staff,
Welcome to the first fall edition of our North High Newsletter! I hope many of you were able to connect with teachers during Parent–Teacher Conferences and gain a clear picture of how your student is progressing this year. Although our overall conference attendance continues to be a challenge, I’m encouraged by the strong communication happening every day through TalkingPoints, phone calls, Canvas updates, and emails. My hope is that families feel more informed and connected than ever.
Please remember: we are not only available during conference nights. Our administrative team, counselors, and teachers are always here to support you. If you have concerns about your student’s experience or progress in any class, we encourage you to call our office at (712) 239-7000 so we can schedule a time to talk and work together. Your partnership matters, and we want to make sure every student has what they need to be successful at North High.
It’s hard to believe, but this week we officially began the registration process for the 2026–2027 school year. Counselors are visiting classrooms across grade levels to share registration materials, discuss course options, and guide students in making informed decisions. While the timeline may feel early, starting now allows us to build accurate schedules, make staffing decisions, and place students in the right classes well before summer break.
Please take a few minutes to talk with your student about their choices and plans for next year. We may not be able to accommodate every scheduling request, but our goal is always to create a smooth, student-centered process. As I often say in parent meetings: we all share the same goal—to see your student walk across the stage in May as a proud North High graduate.
As we transition into late fall, our school becomes an exciting hub of activity. Winter sports seasons are beginning, and our Fine Arts programs are preparing for their winter concerts and the always-popular Madrigal Dinner. Our students put in countless hours of hard work, and your support means the world to them. If you are looking for event dates or weekly opportunities to cheer on our North Stars, please use the BOUND link below to access our full activities calendar.
On behalf of our entire staff, I want to wish every family a Happy Thanksgiving and a joyful start to the holiday season. Thank you for your continued support, your trust, and your commitment to making North High a great place for students to learn and grow.
Go Stars!

Immunizations
Parents and guardians, Iowa law requires students to have certain immunizations, vision screenings, and dental screenings before starting school in the fall.
Your student will not be able to attend school in the fall without proof of the required immunizations and screenings
Please make sure your #SCCSD student is up to date before the first day of school. You can find the complete list of necessary immunizations and screenings on our website, including requirements for preschool students: https://bit.ly/vision-dental-immunization-req.
Start the Day with Breakfast
Studies show a strong connection between eating breakfast and improved academic performance. To support a healthy learning environment, our school provides breakfast daily in addition to lunch. Breakfast is served at our building from 7 am to 8 am.
Visit the District's website for more information on the District’s breakfast and lunch menus.
KUDOS RECOGNITION
Do you know someone in the District who goes above and beyond or makes a positive impact? Tell us about this person and share stories and personal reflections so we can recognize individuals who make exceptional contributions to education, our students, and our school community. Any individual may submit a KUDOS nomination to recognize an SCCSD employee.
SECURE ENTRANCES
Monitoring our entrances is a top priority. As we continue to strive to provide a safe and secure learning environment, we have recognized that there are some enhancements that can be made.
ALL students and guests are expected to enter through the front entrance. Students who are found to prop doors or let others (including students) into the building bypassing the front entrance will be given school consequences up to and including school suspension.
