A letter from our leader Janice A letter from our leader Janice

Are you a member of a book club? Do you like to read books?

I am a member of a book club. I like some books, especially those about real people and what they have to say.

Recently, I read the title of a *free book featuring Steve Jobs’s letters, speeches, and emails, and it made me reflect on how much his attitude resembles that of quilters. His mantra is that the best things happen when technology and art come together to create a product. Isn’t that what stitchers do? Whether you use a machine with modern technology or a vintage model, you are making something wonderful. A needle and thread in the hands of an artist can create something extraordinary. For example, Shin-hee Chin won the Grand Prize at the Dairy Barn in Athens, Ohio, in 2025.

When inspiration strikes—a person, place, or thing—you dive into your work with enthusiasm, stitching through challenges to bring your vision to life. Making something wonderful is in your DNA.

Just as Steve’s stories come to life, so do the stories of your own creations, and we celebrate them at our monthly Show and Tell. I always look forward to these gatherings, and I know you do too.

If you have time, you might enjoy reading "Make Something Wonderful: Steve Jobs In His Own Words."

...and keep stitching!

Janice

The retreat will be held at the firehouse in Scaly Mountain. The cost for renting the firehouse for the week is $185. This price includes cleaning. The cost per person is $20 (depending on number of attendees but regardless of how many days you attend). The fee will be collected at the October Bee Artful meeting. One is a checklist that can be used as a guideline when looking at a quilt - this is published on her website as part of her creative strength training class.

The second is a detailed essay she wrote concerning the process.

I hope that these documents will help the Bee Artful group conduct critique sessions that are productive.

Letter from the editor Letter from the editor

Our August workshop was a combination of how to use black in quilts and show and tell. See the many examples above for what is possible for using black in your quilts. In addition, we saw a couple of great bobbin work pieces from the July workshop and some general show and tell. Silke's bracelets are fun and Geri showed us many options for a September workshop. We decided on the tiny book pictured above and will save a needle/thread holder class for the November retreat.

I am happy to convey all of these wonderful "goings on" via this newsletter. Try to get things to me in advance of the end of the month via email (mandmoliver@gmail.com) or text. If you put the word "newsletter" somewhere in the message line I will be able to find it easier (if using email). See you soon.
