Welcome to Park Street Zach Shelton! We are so excited to have you as our new PE teacher.

We also welcome Rachel Gawdun to the Specials team. This is Miss. Gawdun’s third year at Park Street Elementary and her sixth-year teaching. She is very excited to transition into the STEM position this year! Lenis Lopez is our new Spanish specials teacher. She transitioned from the DLI Kindergarten class to provide all our students the opportunity to learn and have fun in Spanish.

Looking forward to a fantastic year!

How do specials work:

PE, Art, Music, Spanish and STEM are run on a weekly schedule. Each class will have a different special each day of the week.

What are we learning this month in Specials?

Art:

K-5 will go over procedures and expectations in art then playing the fun game of Doodle Disaster with their classmates. The rest of August students will explore a variety of art supplies when creating their projects.

Music:

K-5 Music: Working on rules, rituals, routines, and the fundamentals of music. 3-5 will be working on preparing for their Performing Panther Auditions at the end of the month.

PE:

K–5 PE: Students will kick off the year by learning gym rules, procedures, and expectations while participating in fun, name-based movement activities designed to build relationships, teamwork, and cooperation.

STEM:

In STEM this month our 3-5 students will be learning classroom expectations while reviewing the engineering design process. Our K-2 students have also been learning classroom expectations while exploring what it means to be creative and “think outside the box”.

Spanish:

We’re off to a great start! Students are learning Spanish greetings, introductions, and classroom routines while exploring the Spanish-speaking world through music, culture, and fun activities.

¡Vamos a aprender español! ❤️

Gifted:

Welcome back Panthers!!

1st-2nd grade MILE: We will be working in a unit about Ornithology for the first semester this year. We will learn all about birds, their anatomy, and even dissect owl pellets.

3rd grade MILE: We will work in a unit about Endangered Species. We will learn about animals that are no longer on our Earth and what could have caused them to disappear.

4th -5th grade MILE: We will work in a unit called Ideas Can Change the World. In this unit we will talk about ideas that have changed the world and develop our own ideas that work into a Rube Goldberg style project.

I am very excited about all of our units this year and I can't wait to get started!
