Message from Mrs. Ellinger- Classroom Requests Message from Mrs. Ellinger- Classroom Requests

Soon the staff will develop our class lists for next school year based on our best estimate of student enrollment numbers. The elementary staff uses a team approach to create classes and we use many factors in our decision. The process is well-developed and it is meant to create optimal learning environments for the children.

The staff who place the children into next year’s classes know the needs of the children extremely well-which is why the placement process completed by staff is so effective. As a result, we strive to limit the number of specific teacher requests.
If you feel your child has special factors that may impact his/her placement you may write Mrs. Ellinger a letter about those factors. I will only accept letters. We require that families let us know about such factors or characteristics of teaching instead of a specific teacher request. We will use this additional information during our placement process. Please submit a letter to Mrs. Ellinger by Friday, March 20, 2026.

We will continue to place all children in a warm and nurturing learning environment that will challenge them and help them grow. Thank you for your continued trust and support.

Forward Exam Snacks Forward Exam Snacks

Please consider donating snacks to our 3rd and 4th grade students for our Forward State Exam. Research has proven that when students have their basic needs met, they perform better on exams. We can avoid the barrier of students being hungry before taking the Forward Exam by providing healthy options here at school. You can sign up on the Sign-up Genius below if you would like to donate. Please note, any item you sign up for must be in a quantity of 24. We have approximately 24 students in each class in 3rd and 4th grade. Please send donations to Northview by Friday, March 13th.

Book Fair Success! Book Fair Success!

The Scholastic book fair ran for 5 days, February 2-6th, 2026. We had at least 23 people help with set up, running the fair, and take down of it.

The total sales were $11,060.84. The school gets half of that back, so $5,530.42 is what we receive from this book fair.

Prior to hosting this book fair, we had about $1500 in our Scholastic account.

During this book fair we spent $4,716.77 on supplies for our staff. This total includes mostly books for classroom use, but also classroom supplies such as a 3-tier rolling cart, a monitor stand, a book storage bench, a classroom rug, and mobile drawer storage.

A HUGE thank you to Jenna Albrecht and Erin Waters for arranging the fair, and all the other volunteers that helped during the fair. Thank you also to the PTO for putting on PJs and Pancakes, and all the families that supported the book fair and their kids love of reading.

Counseling Corner with Amy Pfeifer Counseling Corner with Amy Pfeifer

Last month, Northview students learned about having a Growth Mindset! We learned that our brain is like a muscle and doing challenging things gives our brain the exercise it needs to get stronger. Part of having a growth mindset is knowing that it's okay to make mistakes, and that persevering through challenges only makes us stronger. We focused on the concept of “The Power of Yet” and learned that some things in life take more time and effort than others. It’s not always easy to persevere when things get tough, and using the word “yet” helps us feel empowered to keep trying! Yet the Yeti (stuffed animal) visited us on announcements and during our assembly as a reminder to practice adding the word "Yet" to every "I can't" statement that we have. For example, instead of saying "I can't do it" we can say "I haven't figured out how to do it...YET!"

For the month of February, we have been focusing on Flexible Thinking. Flexible thinking is a key executive functioning skill that helps us feel successful in everyday life. Flexible thinking helps us plan, organize, manage our time, focus our attention on the task at-hand, and make important decisions. Being a flexible thinker helps us deal with uncertainty, solve problems, adjust to changes, and incorporate new information into our plans and ideas. Students are learning how to be flexible problem-solvers and not get "stuck" in their thoughts and feelings when things don't go as planned!

Fluency Reading Tips Fluency Reading Tips

Fluency is the ability to read accurately with a reasonable rate and appropriate expression. Reading fluency provides the bridge between word recognition and comprehension. When students read fluently, it allows them to focus on comprehension. If a student is reading word by word and stops often to decode, they use most of their working memory on these tasks leaving little room to think about what they are reading. Fluency develops over time. Once students are able to recognize words automatically, they become more fluent. Here are some ideas for working on fluency at home.

Kids Heart Challenge Kids Heart Challenge

This year, our students had a blast participating in the Kids Heart Challenge! The Kids Heart Challenge is a schoolwide program that teaches children about heart and brain health, encourages daily physical activity, and introduces lifesaving skills like hands-only CPR—all while raising funds to support kids with special hearts. So far, our school has raised more than $12,000 for the American Heart Association! 148 students have registered and 41 students have learned Hands-On CPR! What a generous community!!!

Throughout the challenge, students were busy jumping in PE class! We explored short ropes, long ropes, and a variety of jumping, hopping, and leaping activities as part of our unit. Grades 1–4 also took on Jump Rope Ninja, a fun, goal-oriented program that turns jump rope practice into an exciting challenge. Using a belt-ranking system inspired by martial arts, students stayed motivated as they worked to improve their skills and reach new levels.

It was amazing to see our students moving, learning, and supporting a cause bigger than themselves. Thank you to our families for encouraging healthy hearts and helping make the Kids Heart Challenge such a success!

Northview Artists Northview Artists

Our young artists have been working hard, and it shows!

We are especially proud to share some amazing news from the Regional YAM (Youth Art Month) Art Show. Five students from our elementary art class had artwork selected to be displayed at the regional level in Green Bay. This is such a wonderful accomplishment since only 5 can be sent! One student received a Grade Level Award at the regional show. This award is extra special because only one grade-level award is given for all elementary students in the show at the regional level.

Of those five students, three were chosen to advance to the State YAM Art Show in Madison.
The State YAM Art Show will be held at the East Towne Mall in Madison, March 1-27, and we are thrilled to see our students’ artwork represented on the state level.

In addition, families are invited to attend another upcoming celebration of student creativity. Our students’ artwork will be on display at the John Michael Kohler Art Center from Saturday, February 28 until Sunday, April 5. This is a fantastic opportunity to see the creativity and hard work of our young artists showcased in a professional art space.

Thank you for supporting the arts and encouraging creativity at home. We are so proud of our students and can’t wait to continue creating, exploring, and celebrating art together!

4th Grade Highlights! 4th Grade Highlights!

Fourth grade has been busy learning so many things! During our literacy blocks, students have been diving into Geology content where we have been learning about Earth! We were able to do a fun graham cracker lab where students modeled how tectonic plates interact with each other which showed the landforms and natural disasters that take place. As we continue this unit, we will learn more about the rock cycle, mountains and the sea!

In math, we have been focusing on word problems, including multi step word problems. We are wrapping up the unit and will move on to measurement. In addition to curriculum, students also had the opportunity to participate in math battles, focusing on geometry terms and math facts. Check out the pictures to see what we've been up to in 4th grade! We look forward to hosting and seeing many of you at our upcoming Let's Taco 'Bout Reading night!
