EJMS Families,

We had a great week at East Middle with iReady testing and a fun tailgate for our students! Our first month of school attendance was well above our goal and we had 95.53% attendance, even despite several illnesses passing around already. Thank you to our families for continuing to make school attendance a priority!

Midterms and Accessing Grades through IC Parent Portal

The first Nine Weeks Midterm ends this coming week on Friday, September 12th.

Family Friendly Schools - committee members needed

East Middle is pursuing a Family Friendly Schools certification this year and we are forming a committee to help with this work. We need a few parents who would be willing to meet periodically (anticipate at least once a month) to help us grow through this process. You can find out more on the Prichard Committee’s website. Focus on School Safety

EJMS Sources of Strength members along with their sponsor, Ms. Betsy Montgomery joined district leaders in signing the declaration committing to school safety.

My name is Lynn Byers and I am your Youth Service Center Director. My hours are 9-4 each day and my phone number is 859-885-6749. I have access to resources and help for families and students. I’d love for you to fill out this attached survey so that I can get a better idea of how to help. I’d also like to invite you to our first Advisory Board meeting on September 9th at 4:30 in the EJMS library.

As you know, we have created a family school compact outlining how each stakeholder in our school community: the school faculty and staff, student families, and students themselves will share the responsibility of helping each child be successful at our school. We would like for each EJMS parent/guardian and student to sign this compact and return it to school. This can be done online following the link below. On this form, you will also find links to the Title 1 School Presentation if you have not had a chance to view that yet. If you would like a paper copy, those will be available in the school office or you can contact our newsletter editor, Sheena Roller and she will send you one. Thanks so much to those who have already signed this compact. All students who return a compact either through the link or in a paper form will be entered to win a prize of ebucks or other items.

Join EJMS National Junior Beta

EJMS National Junior Beta is looking for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders who are passionate about service, leadership, achievement, and character. Junior Beta is a chance to share artistic and academic talents and skills as well as an opportunity for growing as student leaders through weekly chapter meetings, state and national conventions, and so much more. Find out more about joining Beta from one of our sponsors: Sheena Roller, Carrie Mahagan-Kinkade, and Victoria Grillo. We're inviting any students who are interested in finding out more about what happens at Beta and if this might be the place for them to join us on Sept. 17. We will be having a parent interest meeting on Sept. 17 at 5:30 for parents and families to learn more.

Junior Beta Student Application

The 7th Grade Class Trip to Charleston, South Carolina will take place between February 26-28th, 2026. This is an exciting opportunity for our students to travel to a historical location, to make connections between topics learned in class and the real world, and to make memories with their friends.
