A Hoot with Kahoot (November 7, 2025)
Kahoot Refresher & Updates
Every year, Kahoot's offerings have become more robust. What began as a classic question-and-answer quiz has evolved to offer more "game-within-a-game" options similar to Blooket. Our premium Kahoot allows students study tools too. This year is all about the AI updates as well.
Here are a few newer Kahoot features you may not be aware of:
- "Accuracy Mode"- Reward students not for the fastest answer, but the most accurate. With accuracy mode, students get the same amount of time to answer the question. That means no more racing, pressure or quick guessing. (Classic vs. Accuracy Mode Information)
- "Kahoot Generator"- Using AI, turn a PDF or other information document into a Kahoot
- "Language Learning"- Students can use Kahoot to become fluent in 50+ languages faster by playing premade games based on vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar
- Syncing Google Slides- This is the link to easily import a Google Slide Deck, PowerPoint or PDF.
- Kahoot Template Bank- This resource offers a variety of game starters
If you want help or more information about any of these, please schedule a work session with the link at the bottom of this Smore (or below my email signature) OR email a request to IT-helpdesk@mywccc.org.
Trouble Giving Students Access?
Some people have struggled giving students access to their Kahoots. There are two ways to easily hare them with students.
- Assign the Kahoot: even if you don't want to give students a "grade" per se, the easiest way to freely share the Kahoot is to assign it.
- The second way is to make sure your Kahoot isn't in the "Team Workspace," but rather in the "Personal Workspace."
Method #2- A “Workspace” is where content is created, edited & organized. Teachers can easily switch between workspaces, but I often get questions about why we need more than one? The general idea is that workspaces exist due to certain setting concepts. Think of Team Workspaces as places that make it easier to collaborate with other teachers, while Private Workspaces focus on teacher privacy and giving the owner of the Kahoots more autonomy, aka the ability to "share" their games more freely. Don't worry, Kahoots can easily be switched from the team to private workspace.

Exploring Game Modes
Kahoot offers a wide variety of live game opportunities.
1. Classic Mode:
These games are the OG Kahoots, rewarding both quickness and correctness.
2. Accuracy Mode:
These games give all students the same amount of time and only reward students based on correctness during a given amount of time.
3. Team Mode:
There are three kinds of team modes- Player vs. Player, Team vs. Team with a shared device and a Team vs. Team with students using their own devices.
These two are essentially the same product, but focused on different settings of delivery.
4.1 Presentation Mode: (Business Setting)
These are engaging and interactive presentations that one might like to use in a meeting or training. These are when questions are natively housed within a Kahoot slide presentation. These are great for meetings, training and learning conferences. (Importing Google Slide Decks)
4.2 Lecture Mode: (Classroom Setting)
These are engaging and interactive presentations as well only set in a classroom. These are when questions are natively housed within a Kahoot slide presentation. (Importing Google Slide Decks)
5. Student-Led Mode:
These are a game within a game or what some teachers like to call “Booklet-like” games. They are Treasure Trove, Robot Run, Color Kingdoms, Submarine Squad, The Lost Pyramid, Tallest Tower, Chill Art and Cosmic Conquest (very similar to Tallest Tower).
Learn by Playing Games with the Fam
A fun way to learn things is to play or experiment with loved ones. Are you looking for a fun game or two to play with the fam while you digest the turkey? Here are a few resources you can use to have friendly competition and still get experience using Kahoot.

Kahootopia
Simply put, Kahootopia is a visual representation of a class's progress, effort and gaming success. While this might not be for everyone, it's worth a look to see if it would work with your students. It encourages team work and is reflective of how well a class works together and plays games. Kahootoppia starts with a small island, that grows as the class plays more. Since this feature focuses on the group rather than the individual, it emphasizes a low risk and pressure environment.
Please note that any assigned Kahoots that students complete contribute to the island's growth as a class. That means any time a teacher assigns a Kahoot asynchronously, they get the create in Kahootopia as well. Here's more information about Kahootopia Assignments.
