BOY NWEA MAP Data Is IN!
Your child recently completed the MAP® Growth™ Reading, Math, and Science (5th
Grade only) assessments. This week, your child’s Family Report, which summarizes their performance and growth as measured by the most recent MAP Growth test was given to your child.
MAP Growth is a unique, adaptive assessment that adjusts to your child’s responses. When
a student answers correctly, the test becomes more challenging; if they answer incorrectly,
it adjusts to an easier question. This process provides a complete picture of where your
child is on their learning journey-- whether they are on, above, or below grade level. There
is no studying or preparation needed – MAP shows what a student is ready to learn next,
not how well they learned grade-level curriculum.
The results are reported as RIT scores, a stable scale that has the same meaning across
grade levels. This allows teachers to monitor progress consistently over time and tailor
instruction to meet the needs of each student. Teachers also use these results to group
students with similar skill levels and set meaningful goals for learning.
To help you better understand your child’s results, NWEA has created a Family Toolkit
with short, family-friendly videos and resources:
· What is MAP Growth? – A quick overview of how the assessment works.
• How to Read Your Child’s Report – Step-by-step guidance to support families.
• Full toolkit and resources: NWEA Family Toolkit
We encourage you to review these resources before looking through your child’s report
so you can celebrate their progress and support their continued growth.
If you have questions after reviewing the report, please contact your child’s teacher.
Thank you for partnering with us to support your child’s educational journey!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Fernandez, Campus Assessment Coordinator

A Message from the DCMS Special Education Parent Advisory Committee Representative
Hi Maverick families!
My name is Mistura Osinowo, and I am the 2025-2026 Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC) parent representative here at David Crockett Middle School for the 2025-2026 school year. I am a mom to an amazing 6th grader at Crockett, named Andrew.
The Fort Bend ISD Special Education Parent Advisory Committee (SEPAC) is comprised of parents of children with special needs, representing all Fort Bend ISD campuses. The purpose of the SEPAC is to facilitate understanding, respect, and appropriate education for all children while supporting families and educators who are all striving for this goal.
As the representative here at Crockett, my goal is to create a supportive SPED (Special Education) community among staff and families here at Crockett. This can range from providing educational meetings about topics you feel are essential, or as simple as receiving emails about resources and events available for you. SEPAC holds regular meetings that I will attend monthly to gather new information. As your representative, I will pass on that information to our SPED community.
I look forward to working together with you this year. Should you ever have any questions or

Mr. Daniels, 7th Grade & Lead Counselor
- What is the one thing most people don’t know about you? I was Drum Major of my high school band.
- What do you like most about Crockett Middle School? The variety of backgrounds and perspectives our students bring enhances the learning environment in meaningful ways.
- What is your favorite hobby? Playing and watching Volleyball
- If you could have a superpower, what would it be? Why? Flying, so that I wouldn’t have to deal with traffic.
- Name one bucket list item and why? Spending a month in Bora Bora, relaxing in a Bungalow over the water. It sounds like paradise.
Mrs. Konieczny, 8th Grade ELA Teacher & ELA Department Head
What is the one thing most people don’t know about you? Because of my “Sugar Land accent,” most people don’t realize that my parents immigrated here from India and Mexico seeking better educational opportunities. When I share with my students that I’m a first-generation American, they understand why teaching means so much to me. Thanks to my parents’ courage, the future for our family has been forever changed for the better!
What do you like most about Crockett Middle School? I absolutely love being part of Crockett Middle School—it’s one of the most diverse campuses in FBISD. My students have taught me so much about myself and the world around me. The best part? Many of them stay in touch and share their successes with me, which always warms my heart.
What is your favorite hobby? Outside of school, I’m passionate about reading and traveling. I read every day before and after school even if it's only for 20 minutes. Additionally, every year, my husband and I pick a new place to explore on our anniversary. We've been to 18 different locations so far! I’ve learned that people are incredibly kind when you show genuine appreciation for their culture and hometown.
If you could have a superpower what would it be? Why? I wish I could be two places at one time, so I would never feel like I'm letting anyone down. I love showing up for people and being a part of a special memory!
Name one bucket list item and why? I'm beyond excited because I am able to cross off this off my bucket list item this Thanksgiving Break: a surprise trip to Disney World with my daughter! She is still young enough to believe in all the magic. She's never even been on a plane, so the entire trip will be a dream come true for her.
Mr. Hairston, Head Orchestra Director
What is the one thing most people don’t know about you? I was in both band and orchestra growing up; however, I was much more into band as a kid. It wasn't until college that I started taking a greater interest in orchestra and teaching orchestra.
What do you like most about Crockett Middle School? I love how diverse DCMS is. We have little bit of every demographic in our one school.
What is your favorite hobby? I lift weights about 4 times per week. It has been a great refuge for me from the stressed of life and work. I haven't missed a week of the gym in 92 weeks!
If you could have a superpower, what would it be? Why? Teleportation. It would just make traveling so much easier and commuting so much easier!
Name one bucket list item and why? Travel outside of the US. I have been to most major US cities, but I would like to expand my horizons and see other parts of the world-- especially Asia.
Mr. Cantu, 8th Grade US History Teacher & Social Studies Department Head
- What is the one thing most people don’t know about you? I’m great at video games (any game, really), board games, and I enjoy reading philosophy and fantasy books in my spare time.
- What do you like most about Crockett Middle School? I love the people who work at Crockett. They represent our school with pride and heart.
- What is your favorite hobby? Weightlifting, and when I’m not doing that, I’m gaming.
- If you could have a superpower, what would it be? Why? Telekinesis! Being able to move things across the room without getting up would be a dream come true.
- Name one bucket list item and why? Traveling through Spain and Italy—it’s been a lifelong dream to experience their incredible history, from the ancient Roman ruins to the Renaissance art and architecture. I’d love to walk the same streets where philosophers, explorers, and artists that once shaped the world.

TMEA 2026 Invited Spotlight MS Orchestra
TMEA is the Texas Music Educators Association and each year, nearly 30,000 attendees gather in San Antonio for the TMEA Clinic/Convention, making it one of the largest music education events in the nation.
This year, Crockett Middle School has received the honor of being the Invited Spotlight MS Orchestra for TMEA. Congratulations MAVS! This is quite an accomplishment, and we are so thankful to Mr. Hairston (DCMS Orchestra Director) and Mr. Adams (DCMS Assistant Orchestra Director) for going above and beyond to give the students of Crockett these really beautiful experiences. See you all in San Antonio...celebrating and cheering on our amazing students and dynamic Orchestra director duo!
Student ID Badges
Students have received their ID badges, and they are required to wear them appropriately around their neck, for the entire instructional day. Badges are utilized on school buses, in the lunch line, library, etc.
Upon arrival, student ID badges are checked. Students who lose their badge, badge holder or lanyard, will be responsible for purchasing a new one. Students who repeatedly report to campus without their badge, will receive a consequence in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct. The Consequence could include but is not limited to detentions and suspensions.
Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe.
Game Day Expectations
The 2025-2026 Athletics season kicks off this month! As we continue to excel academically, and in the various areas of Fine Arts, we are also excited to see gains in the area of athletics too.
Just as during all sporting events, students are expected to adhere to the FBISD Code of Conduct. Adults observing gaming events, are also required to engage in appropriate, respectful and courteous behavior. While we are so thankful to the Crockett community for being supportive and kind during games, it is important for us to still make mention of this expectation.
We sincerely appreciate our school community (children & adults), for positively contributing to the wonderful athletic events we have experienced and look forward to having this school year.
Let's GO MAVS!
Student Laptops
As a district, we have been exceptionally fortunate to be able to ensure that all students at the secondary level receive a laptop. The laptop is only to be used for instructional purposes. Students are to bring their laptop to school each day, fully charged. This means that our Mavs must get into the routine of plugging their laptop up each night before going to bed.
Students are not to remove the protective case, and all parents are strongly encouraged to purchase laptop insurance. Click on the link below to learn more about:

Congratulations! DCMS 2024-2025 Dream Box Success...and BEYOND!
Dream Box Math (K-8) is an engaging and adaptive math program that integrates curriculum and continuous formative assessment to personalize instruction, develop conceptual understanding, build critical skills, and improve achievement for every student, regardless of where they are in their learning journey.
Congratulations DCMS! Out of ALL FBISD middle schools, for the 2024-2025 school year, Crockett Middle School earned the 2nd place position for completing the highest number of Dream Box lessons per week. Magnificent work Mavs! We are focused on earning the #1 spot for the 2025-2026 school year. We've got this!
Parents, once the school year begins, teachers will share information about Dream Box that will support students in experiencing enhanced levels of growth and achievement in mathematics for the 2025-2026 school year. For our students who are well-versed with Dream Box, feel free to begin utilizing this meaningful resource as soon as possible.
No Place for Hate Distinction
Congratulations to DCMS for receiving their No Place for Hate distinction for the 2024-2025 school year. While this distinction has been earned each year, each time it is received is just as special as the first. Many thanks to the DCMS Counseling team for the work they do to support students and staff in achieving this acknowledgment!
The DCMS Counseling Department is a Recipient of the 2024 CREST Award! Congrats!
2024 ENERGY STAR Award
Congratulations to DCMS for being one of four middle schools in FBISD to receive the ENERGY STAR award. In recognition of superior energy performance, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded the ENERGY STAR to David Crockett Middle School. Great work Mavs!
Timely and Safe Arrival & Dismissal at DCMS
Our day begins at 8:50 a.m. and ends at 4:10 p.m.
As students transition through each period of the school day, they will be counted tardy if they are not in their designated class when the tardy bell rings. When students arrive late, they miss meaningful moments in the school day. This has negative impacts on their academic growth and achievement, and their SEL (social emotional learning) experience. They also incur consequences in accordance with the FBISD Student Code of Conduct. These consequences range from a verbal warning, a parent-teacher/admin conference, upwards to various detentions and/or suspensions. Please ensure that your child arrives on time, ready to learn, each day.
Parents who drop off and pick up students, are to use the car rider line. The line runs in front of the entrance of the school. Please do not drop off students in any parking lot. Additionally, do not drop them off along the curb, in the street, or in the surrounding neighborhoods. This is unsafe and you will get ticketed by FBISD police and/or Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office.
While in the car rider line, proceed legally and with care. You are in a school zone. Stay off your phone and please be attentive to all that is going on around you. This includes, but is not limited to, pulling all the way forward when you are motioned to and/or asked to do so. Our goal is to safely and efficiently get as many students as possible, transitioned out of/into their parent's car. Thank you for assisting us with this endeavor. Your support, respect and kindness are appreciated and needed more than you realize.
Early pickups are highly discouraged, as every second of learning counts. Please be sure to see the attached FBISD 2025-2026 Instructional Calendar, so that you can take advantage of trying to schedule necessary appointments on days we are not in school. For those moments, when you must understandably check out your child early, please do so by 3:30 p.m. or sooner. If you attempt to check your child out any later, it will take a greater amount of time to secure them, as we are concluding the day and preparing for various modes of p.m. dismissal.
Reminders for Excellence at DCMS
