Haslett Middle School New Associate Principal
Welcome Sara Southwell!
Dear Haslett Families,
My name is Sara Southwell, and I am excited to introduce myself as the new Associate Principal at Haslett Middle School. I am grateful for the opportunity to join Haslett Public Schools and become part of a district known for its strong commitment to students, families, and educational excellence.
With over a decade of experience in education, I began my career as a classroom teacher, teaching both middle school mathematics and upper elementary students. Those experiences shaped my belief in the importance of meeting students where they are, maintaining high expectations, and supporting both academic and social-emotional growth. I later earned my Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Central Michigan University and have continued my work in school leadership with a focus on student support, strong collaboration with teachers, and meaningful partnerships with families.
Middle school is a critical time in a student’s development, and I believe students are most successful when they feel known, supported, and held to clear and consistent expectations. In my role as Associate Principal, I am committed to building positive relationships with students, supporting staff, and working in partnership with families through open communication, fairness, and shared responsibility.
Thank you for welcoming me to Haslett Public Schools. I look forward to working with students, staff, and families throughout the district and contributing to a positive and supportive learning environment for all.
Warm regards,
Sara Southwell
Associate Principal

Family Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Input Survey
Haslett Public Schools is selecting a new K–8 Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum for the 2026–27 school year, and we want to hear from families. SEL helps students build essential life skills such as managing emotions, developing positive relationships, making responsible decisions, and handling challenges in healthy ways.
Families are invited to complete a brief survey by Thursday, February 12 (the link is embedded).
Your feedback will help shape a thoughtful, age-appropriate SEL program that supports the well-being and success of all Haslett students.
Middle School Musical: Rock Around the Block
Gracie Stanley has gotten herself in hot water by promising to deliver her distant cousin, rock star Ziggy Springer, for the high school Hippity Hop dance. Ziggy’s manager doesn’t want his client performing anywhere without pay, so Gracie and her friends have to produce a dance — and fast! It won’t be easy for Gracie to get away with this one with her rival, snooty Muffin Mansfield, waiting for her to flop.
Performances will be held at Haslett High School on Friday, February 20th at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, February 21st at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available online beginning Thursday, February 4th. Tickets
Ninety Five Haslett Middle School students have been working hard! Being involved in an activity like this is a great opportunity for students. They are exploring creativity and self-expression, learning teamwork, collaboration, discipline and time management, as well improving public speaking, communication, understanding and musical abilities. We are extremely proud of our students' work, please come and support them!
