Virtual Snow Day Preparation Information Virtual Snow Day Preparation Information

zoom_out_map
  • The following information is being shared in the event that a virtual snow day is called. Dr. Filippelli will weigh factors such as snowfall timing, snowfall amount, extent of power outages, and impact on the school calendar when deciding to call a traditional snow day or use a virtual instruction day.

If a virtual instruction day is called, Northern Lincoln Elementary School will follow the schedule below. Specific lesson instructions will be shared by students’ teachers.

    Please note the following:

    • Synchronous: classes run in real-time (Listed Below), with students and instructors attending together from different locations.

    • Asynchronous: a student does not need to meet in real-time with a live class or teacher. Students participating in asynchronous learning can move through assignments independently and at their own pace.

    Elementary Schedule for Virtual Learning

Construction on New River Road

We want to keep you informed about the ongoing road work near our school that continues to affect arrival and dismissal procedures. Crews have narrowed and shifted the travel lanes on New River Road to address repairs on a culvert. The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (DOT) has informed us that New River Road is now reduced to one lane, with traffic alternating via a newly installed stoplight.

While this adjustment maintains two-way traffic and keeps all school entrances open, it may lead to delays during drop-off and pick-up times. Please note that traffic drop-off and pick-up locations remain unchanged.

To help ensure a smooth process:

  • Allow extra time for arrival and dismissal.
  • Exercise patience with staff and other families as we adjust to these changes.
  • Follow directions from staff members assisting with traffic flow.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we navigate this situation together. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me or the main office!

Sick Day Guidelines: How to Decide if Your Child Should Stay Home

At Northern Lincoln Elementary School, we want to make sure our students stay healthy and able to focus on learning. When deciding if your child should attend school, please consider these important guidelines:

Keep your child home if they:

  • Have a fever of 100.4°F or higher
  • Have been vomiting or experiencing diarrhea
  • Show symptoms that prevent participation in class, such as:
    • Sore throat: This could indicate strep throat, especially if accompanied by a headache, stomach discomfort, or rash
    • Fatigue or lack of appetite
    • Uncontrolled coughing
    • Headaches, body aches, or earaches

When can your child return to school?

  • After being fever-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication
  • After at least 24 hours without vomiting or diarrhea

Important Reminders:

  • If your child’s fever is lowered with medicine, they should not attend school.
  • If your child vomited or had diarrhea the evening before or the morning of school, they must stay home.

Reporting Absences:
Please report all absences by calling 769-0261 daily. Be specific about the reason for the absence, such as fever with vomiting and diarrhea, or sore throat with stomachache.

Questions or Concerns?
Contact Nurse Rose at 769-0261 with any health-related concerns.

Preventing the Spread of Illness:
Please remind your child to wash their hands regularly—before eating, after using the bathroom, and after sneezing or coughing. Encourage them to cough and sneeze into their elbow while looking downward to help prevent spreading germs.

Flu Facts & Prevention:
Flu season typically runs from November to April, with the peak between December and March. Flu symptoms appear quickly and are often more severe than the common cold. These may include fever, chills, body aches, cough, sore throat, and nausea. To help prevent the flu:

  • Consider the flu shot if recommended by your pediatrician
  • Wash hands frequently and thoroughly
  • Avoid sharing utensils or cups
  • Stay home when feeling sick and always cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing

Treating the Flu:
If your child has flu symptoms, make sure they stay home, drink plenty of fluids, and get ample rest. If needed, consult your doctor for advice on treatment.

We hope this information helps you make the best decisions for your child’s health. If you have any questions, please reach out to Nurse Rose at 769-0261. Let’s keep everyone healthy and safe!

Promoting Good Attendance All Winter Long

Winter Attendance Tips: Staying on Track

Winter weather and seasonal illnesses can present challenges to getting children to school. Snow, freezing temperatures, and heavy rains can make travel difficult, while colds, flu, and earaches are more common during these months. Additionally, students may need to stay home due to COVID-19.

Here are some tips to help maintain strong attendance during winter:

  • Plan Ahead: Check weather forecasts and allow extra time for safe travel to school.
  • Stay Healthy: Encourage handwashing, a healthy diet, and plenty of rest to boost immune systems.
  • Bundle Up: Dress your child in warm layers, including hats, gloves, and sturdy boots.
  • Communicate with School: If your child must stay home due to illness, please inform the school right away and help them keep up with assignments when they are feeling better.

What Parents Should Know About Title I

Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act provides financial assistance to state and local educational agencies to meet the needs of at-risk children. The goal of Title I is to provide instructional services and activities which support students in meeting the state’s challenging performance standards.

What will Title I do for my child?

The Title I program will provide your child with extra educational assistance beyond the regular classroom when needed. Title I schools will identify the students at their school who need the most educational assistance based on the criteria that the school has chosen. Students do NOT have to be from low-income families to receive Title I services.
