Principal Update 6/9/2025

Good Morning Memorial Families,

What an awesome week we had last week! Field Day was once again a highlight of the year for our students, so thank you to the countless volunteers who made it happen, along with Erin Valcourt, who ensured the day was well-organized and staffed. The addition of a dunk tank was a lot of fun for the kids, even if it was a bit too chilly for the adults who sat on the plank all day!

As you can see in the photo above, Inspired Learning Day was once again wildly successful. We had students who went to Shining Rock to learn how to play golf, some who designed instruments, and even had students design their own business models. We could not make this day happen without the many community partners who donated materials, time, and expertise to help our students develop their Portrait of a Learner skills in a fun, memorable way.

This week, it is all about our fourth graders. This class will always hold a special place in my heart. They are my very first class to go all the way through Memorial with me. It was a rough start in the fall of 2020 for all of us, but it is so satisfying to see how far this group of students has come. I am looking forward to celebrating them on Tuesday at their well-deserved Send-Off. Thank you to all of our fourth grade families for entrusting us with your babies. I am certain they are ready to take on Miscoe Hill Middle School and make a positive difference as they continue to grow.

We have just 5.5 days left in the 2024-2025 school year. It is hard to believe, as it feels like we just began. I wish everyone a wonderful summer break, filled with sunshine, warm weather, relaxation, and of course, lots of daily reading!
