Fisher Family Update

September 20, 2020

Fisher FamilyUpdateSeptember 20, 2020

Dear Fisher Families,

We had a great first week of school! It was awesome to see all our students in person and remotely. That is not to say we didn’t have our share of glitches. The technology was not consistently reliable, our drop off/pick up was a traffic jam, some recess equipment is back ordered, lunches were delivered a little late and some tents still need to be set up. However, systems have been created and improvements were made in all these areas as the week progressed. I anticipate this positive trend to continue as we go through this year of new challenges.

Our teachers are the lead learners and they are doing a great job modeling risk taking, a Growth Mindset and perseverance for our students. The Power of YET has never been more prevalent in our learning community. We may not know how to do certain things...YET...but we will learn!

The most important aspects of our reopening went great! Students were positive, adhered to the new safety protocols and gave their best effort. This is all we can ask!

Thank you for all your cooperation this week and please thank you child for all their hard work, helping us get this school year off to a great start!

Enjoy your Sunday,

Brian

On Thursday, October 8th from 6-8pm, Fisher Elementary School will have its annual Open House. An Open House website is being finalized and an update with the agenda, links, schedules and all other details will be shared with you soon.

Access to Fisher During the School Day

WPS has asked that Parent/Guardians do not enter the building for the safety of students and staff. Parents/Guardians should remain outside the front door when signing their children in tardy or dismissing them. When dropping items off, items should be labeled with your students name/teacher and left on the table. Documents can be put in the Orange box to the left of the door. FOOD SERVICES UPDATE

Lunch and Breakfast

Beginning next week ALL students in the state of Massachusetts will be entitled to a FREE breakfast and lunch. The Walpole School Nutrition Department has worked tirelessly to make this a reality for our students. Please see below with the general details:

Breakfast

  • As the students arrive at class each day they will be offered a pre-packaged shelf-stable breakfast consisting of cereal, juice, animal crackers, and milk. Students are able to take this breakfast or pass on a daily basis.

Lunch

  • Each morning, teachers will submit a lunch count and we will always have additional meals in case students forget. Families no longer need to pre-order lunch. The lunches will continue to be delivered to the classrooms by our amazing cafeteria workers at lunchtime. Please see the menu outlined by the School Nutrition Department.

A message from our school nurse, Mrs. Lindsey Moyes

Grade 4 Parents/Guardians:

A health history form will be sent home next week with your 4th grade student. Please fill this out, sign and return to the school.

Medication Drop Off:

Dear Fisher Parent/Guardian,

If your child has medication (Epinephrine, Albuterol Inhalers, Antihistamines, daily medications to be distributed at school, etc), please plan on dropping off your medication at school. Medications are not allowed to be sent in a child's backpack. Please do not plan on entering the building and remember to wear a mask. Please send me an email to arrange a drop off.

  • Please make sure you have updated medication orders (ie Allergy Action Plan, Anaphylaxis Action Plan, Asthma Action Plan) for this school year (dated after 6/30/20) signed by the parent/guardian as well as the prescribing physician.
  • All medication needs to be in the original prescription labeled box.
  • As a reminder, all inhalers will require a spacer this year per the state guidelines.

As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns, I can be reached via email at LMoyes@walpole.k12.ma.us

Looking forward to a safe and healthy school year!

Message from Fisher PAC

Hi Fisher Families, welcome back from your Fisher PAC friends!!

We hope you all enjoyed the summer, while staying safe and well during these unsettling times. The start to the school year is just days away and we are looking forward to getting back to school.

To all those new to Fisher Elementary welcome, The Fisher PAC is your Parent Advisory Council that represents all parents within the Fisher Community on how best to represent, fundraise, and achieve goals for all students at Fisher Elementary School. The Fisher PAC is compiled of a board, along with a very active, enthusiastic, involved and committed group of parents. It's a great time for you to join us, make a difference, meet new friends and support your children's school.

This year, our standard fundraising events, which traditionally supports our budget will be on hold based on current guidelines and protocols. Therefore, we are working on creative ways to “social distance” fundraise. We would welcome your ideas, suggestions and comments to help us make this happen, as we need to compile alternate ways to support our school, especially this year. We welcome you to contact us directly, or email with us your ideas.

We plan to meet by scheduling meetings on Zoom, please save the date, for Wednesday, October 7th at 8pm, this will be the first of the school year. This meeting is open to all, and we encourage you to Zoom IN. The outline will be emailed, along with the updated and proposed 2020-2021 school year budget. The meeting will kick off with school updates, news and pertinent educational information from our principal, Mr. Bemiss. Fisher PAC will discuss our current budget, proposed budget, fundraising opportunities and have open discussion. You can Zoom in, video or voice whichever you prefer. Meeting link and instructions will also be emailed.

We are here to help, also have many resources available to you so please at any time you are welcome to contact any board member, or email your comments, suggestions and ideas to fisherschoolpac@gmail.com.

Looking forward to making the most of this school year.

Your PAC Board,
Christine Clancy & Lori Winer, Co-Presidents
Nancy Niles, Treasurer
Heidi Graceffa, Secretary
