FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK
Dear Edison Families,
Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming up this week! These conversations are one of the most powerful ways we partner together to celebrate your child’s achievements, discuss their progress, and build a strong team to support their growth every step of the way.
To help you get the most out of your time with your student's teacher, I shared a few helpful tips during last Wednesday’s Coffee with the Principal. You can view the bilingual presentation here for some strategies on how to prepare and what questions to ask.
Keep in mind that our schedule is different this week due to conferences:
- Tuesday is a pupil free day (no students at school unless in a camp)
- Wednesday - Friday are Minimum Days.
If you haven't scheduled your conference yet, please reach out to your child’s teacher today to secure a spot. They look forward to connecting with you!
Warmly,
Directora Ipiña

MUSICAL INSTRUMENT REMINDER
Parents of 4th and 5th graders!
We are so fortunate to have instrumental music for our 4th and 5th graders. Besides learning music skills, students are learning to be responsible for their instrument. Unfortunately, many students are forgetting their instruments at home.
Please make sure your child remembers to bring their instrument to school on Mondays and Fridays. When students forget their instrument and parents drop it off, we must interrupt instruction to call the classroom and let the teacher know. Your child then misses instruction to come down and get it.
Starting in November, we will no longer call the classroom. If your child forgets their instrument and you bring it to the office, they must pass by the office to get it on the way to music class.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Lend a helping hand
Here are some great ways you can help our school:
AM Valet
Come to the office at 8am to get an orange vest and help open car doors on Virginia Avenue. Your child can enter the gates at 8am (no matter the grade) so you can help. We need help Monday-Friday. Just show up when you are available.
Lunch Bunch
We are looking for volunteers to support our lunch bunch activities. These are alternative activities for students who would prefer a quieter activity during lunch. This will begin Oct 13 and continue as long as we have support. Just show up when you are available. See days and times below:
- Tuesday, 12:00-1:20, Art Cart
- Thursday, 12:00-1:20, Watercolor in the garden
Note: You must be volunteer trained and approved to work with students.

PARENT BOOK CLUB
Led by Maestra Naranjo and Maestra Anacelia, a group of parents from both English and Spanish speaking households gathered last Thursday to discuss the book they read, The House of Spirits. This book club is a wonderful opportunity for parents of different language groups to gather and talk while modeling good reading habits for their children. If you are interested, stay on the lookout for our next announcement for our next book.
HALLOWEEN PARADE
ALTAR PREPARATIONS AND RECEPTION
It is such a pleasure to see the energy and excitement amongst our parents as we set up the altars in preparation for our festival. We also have parents creating an alfombra or carpet of colored sand and natural materials each year. This one features an eagle and celebrates our 40th anniversary!
For those that don't know, we have an altar reception the evening after the altars are set up. We invite dignitaries in the city, district, and of course staff. Our 5th graders give bilingual tours to all who come. Before the tours, our very own Maestra Martha and her daughter, an expert in the Day of the Dead ritual, led us through an indigenous ceremony honoring the four directions and the elements at our respect to the ancestors and traditions we are bringing forward.
