The CDA Family Buzz
Week of Monday, October 19th - Friday, October 23rd, 2026
Dear CDA Families,
Welcome to a new week! We look forward to building on our scholars’ progress and supporting their continued growth.
As part of our efforts to close achievement gaps and strengthen academic skills, each scholar has an individualized learning path in their i-Ready account. Please encourage your scholar to complete their assigned lessons each week.
Thank you to all the parents who helped our scholars participate in Burke’s Homecoming Parade. Your cooperation and commitment help us develop the whole child and create memorable experiences!
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, scholars may wear pink shirts with their uniform bottoms on Friday, October 23, 2026.
Our Fall Festival will take place on October 30, 2026, and we are seeking volunteers and donated items to make the day special for our scholars. Please see the attached links for opportunities to help. For more information, contact your scholar’s teacher or Ms. Johnson at 843-722-2689.
Working together is essential to our scholars’ success. Thank you for your continued partnership as we move through this new quarter!
Yours in Education,
Dr. Shawn Johnson
GT Nomination (3 - 8)
Gifted & Talented Student Nominations: October 7–23, 2026
Each fall, the Office of Gifted & Talented offers CogAT nomination testing for students in grades 3, 5, and 6–8. Testing provides another opportunity to meet Dimension A for academically gifted identification. Secondary gifted identifications may also affect state funding for gifted services.
Who is eligible?
Students in these grades who are not already identified as Academically Gifted & Talented may be nominated. Please consider scholars across all demographic groups who demonstrate high potential through their thinking, reasoning, achievement, or classroom performance.
Who can nominate?
Parents/guardians, faculty/staff, other CCSD employees, and students may submit nominations. The District GT Office will nominate students who are partially identified through achievement scores (Dimension B) or GPA (Dimension C).
How to nominate
Complete the nomination Google Form by October 23, 2026. The form is also available on the GT internal website and CCSD website.
Please share this opportunity with families through newsletters, school websites, and social media. You may also use this informational flyer.
For assistance at CDA, please see Mr. Mullins.
