Weekly Update

Dear Elmore School Families,

We had an amazing week filled with exploration and fun!

On Tuesday we went to The Manor to sing songs for the residents who live there. This is one example of outreach to the community that makes The Elmore School such a wonderful place. The room was filled with smiles and toes tapping! We wish to thank Elmore resident, Joe Ciccolo who accompanied us on guitar.

Wednesday we traveled down Rt 12 to our state capital to tour the State House and the Vermont History Museum. While there we learned about the legislative process and how and bill becomes a law. Students saw the rooms where the House of Representatives works, where the Senate works, a committee room and the Governor's office. Additionally the class learned a little history about the State House. Then we made our way next door to the Vermont History Museum. After eating lunch we enjoyed a self guided tour with our chaperones, taking us back in time centuries, where student explored a variety of historical exhibits and artifact. We ended the day with a guided lesson where students explored old Vermont Maps with a goal of trying to date a map based on the map features. Many thanks to our chaperones, Angela Bjork and Paul Sutera (Kaya's Grandpa).

On Thursday we had the most beautiful morning in the snow and sunshine with our Physical Education Teacher, Mr. Bressor, as we played games in the snow with our new snowshoes! We had so much fun playing in the snow!

We ended our week with a Dance! On Monday students used the democratic process as they voted by ballot on 3 options (Dance, Extra Recess, Movie) for a reading reward. The majority of students voted for a dance! It was a fun way to end our week!

We are off until March 4th for our winter break. Town Meeting Day is March 3rd. This is a great opportunity to give your children a glimpse of democracy at the community level. If you will be in town, I encourage you to attend the meeting. This is also the day day ballots are due. Voters will be voting on 2027 town budgets and the EMUU school budget. Your support is important! You can vote in person on March 3rd, or by mailing in or dropping off your ballot at the town clerk's office before then.

You may have heard about "Sprinkles Cash"? A generous community donor has set up a "Sprinkles Cash" fund at the Elmore Store. Each week Mrs. Bellavance and I will be on the lookout for students who are going above and beyond by sprinkling kindness, helpfulness ,and good citizenship. We will choose two student recipients each week who will be rewarded with "Sprinkles Cash", valued at $5.00, to spend at the Elmore Store!

The second trimester ends on March 13th. Family/teacher conferences will take place on March 26th and 27th. Each conference will take about 20-30 minutes. Use the green button below to sign up for a conference.

Wishing you all a wonderful week, whether you are traveling or staying in the snowy Green Mountains.

In gratitude,

Diane Nicholls
