Hello Miller Families!

Can you believe tomorrow is May 1st and we will officially hit the final month of the school year? This upcoming week is National Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! This is a special week to say how much WE APPRECIATE each and every staff member at Miller. Your children adore everyone in our building from Mr. Jimmy and Mr. Anthony who keep our building safe and clean, to nurse Jackie who checks on them when they are feeling ill, to Ms. Theresa, who helps make our lunches in the kitchen and of course all our amazing teachers, paraeducators lunch and recess support staff and our related service providers! THANK YOU! WE APPRECIATE YOU! Our PTO has planned a special week to let our staff know how much we appreciate them. Most days children can write a thank you note to various staff members in our building and of course, wear GREEN on Friday!

We also have some important events happening at Miller this week!

Kindergarten:

Tuesday, May 5th we have our Miller Music Performances! All family members, siblings and grandparents are welcome to attend. If you have family members that need to avoid the steps into our gym, please alert a staff member in the office so we can guide you to use Door 3. The specific schedule for each class performance can be found below!

PreK Preschool Field Trip:

Many of our preschoolers are preparing to be Kindergartners! We have a special field trip planned to Moebius Nature Center during some of our preschool times to take a quick trip to spend some time out in the community! Please see the specific communication from your child's teacher about this special day!

As a reminder this is a 4 day week and there is NO SCHOOL tomorrow, Friday, May 1st!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Kindergarten Music Performances - Tuesday, May 5th! Kindergarten Music Performances - Tuesday, May 5th!

Dear Kindergarten Families,

Get ready for a joyful celebration of music! 🎶

On Tuesday, May 5, your child’s class will be sharing a special daytime performance at Miller Gymnasium during their scheduled time. Throughout the year, students have been exploring many musical ideas in class, and this program will highlight some of their favorite songs and activities. You can expect upbeat music, fun movement, and plenty of smiles as students showcase what they have been learning. We are so excited to share this musical moment with you!

Performance Schedule:

  • 9:30 AM – Mrs. Kidwell, Mrs. Verhotz AM & Mrs. Smerkar
  • 10:05 AM – Mrs. Forster, Mrs. Buettin & Mrs. Sabulsky

  • 1:45 PM – Mrs. Yonally, Ms. Heyman & Mrs. Verhotz PM

  • 2:30 PM – Mrs. Gallucci & Mrs. Haughey

For the performance, children are welcome to dress up a little to make the day feel extra special. Nice shirts with shorts or pants for boys, and skirts or dresses for girls, are great options. Of course, the goal is simply for students to feel comfortable and proud—there is absolutely no pressure to purchase anything new. Please have your child wear whatever helps them feel their best for this celebration.

On May 5, please plan to arrive at Miller School just before your child’s scheduled performance time. After the program concludes, families will be asked to exit the building through the lower exit, where signs will guide you. If you plan to have your child go home with you after the performance, please sign them out at the exit table before leaving.

I look forward to sharing this wonderful program of music, movement, and your child’s enthusiasm for learning. Thank you for supporting the arts and celebrating the hard work of our young musicians! 🎵

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime.

Warmly,
Dr. Iriarte kiriarte@aurora-schools.org

I am really excited to meet with the parents of all my amazing incoming 1st graders on Thursday, April 23rd, at 5:30 p.m. in the Craddock gym! This is a parent-only event, and I look forward to giving you a glimpse into what 1st grade looks like, as well as assuring you of all we do to make the transition a smooth one.

As we begin the process of wrapping up the current school year, we can't help but begin to think about next year. Part of that process is the formulation of class placements. Class placements are constructed in a very particular manner, using data and input from the educational experts at Miller, Craddock and Leighton. We take many factors into consideration when making these decisions and feel it is very important that your input is utilized as well. You know your child best!

Although I cannot guarantee specific teacher requests will be granted due to a number of different factors, it is important to have as much information about each child as possible before the class list-making process gets underway. We recognize that parents/guardians are a valuable source of information to add to our knowledge about what works best for each child. Your information will be very helpful as we determine your child's placement for the 26-27 school year.

If you are interested in having some input, please fill out the following information and submit this form by Friday, May 8, 2026. Any feedback received after that date may not be able to be considered. You are also welcome to call or set up an appointment to speak with me specifically about your thoughts and concerns. I can be reached by email at kmstewart@aurora-schools.org or by phone at 330-562-3175.

Thank you!

I hope you walked away not only with some knowledge about what 1st grade will be like, but more importantly some comfort about all that's to come with the transition!

Planned Absences & Attendance Notification Letters Planned Absences & Attendance Notification Letters

It's that time of year when we begin to have students who meet the benchmarks of notifying families about excessive absences. If your child meets the threshold of missed hours, a letter must be sent from the school alerting you. Please also be reminded that it doesn't matter whether the absences are excused or unexcused. We have to track the hours missed regardless of the reason and communicate to you when benchmarks have been met.

This is also the time of year that planned absences often get scheduled. We have attached our planned absence form and policy. Please make sure you read through this important message and understand that planned absences and absences due to illness all count for missed hours. If you have any further questions, please let me know!

In all our Elementary Buildings, we utilize a Google Form to report attendance, late arrival, early dismissal, and change of transportation such as switching from a bus rider to office pick-up!

To report an absence or change your child to a car rider or bus rider, please click the button below or scan the QR code magnet that we will pass out at Open House. This can be done from any device and your reply will be sent immediately to our secretary, Mrs. Toler.

If your child will be absent, you will use this form to report the absence along with the reason for the absence. We are working really hard to reduce the amount of phone calls, emails, or notes that we receive. We ask that you reserve those modes of communication for emergencies only. Thank you in advance for your help and let us know if you have any questions at all!
